Seeking assistance from fellow enthusiasts.

I've recently had a harsh falling out with a friend who was going to help me with this build and so now there is a dint in my timeline. Part of the reason for this build is to educate myself more about mechanics and the way cars work as I'm definitely no expert. Starting to understand the basic principals but there's a long way to go. I'm hoping the "hands on" experience will broaden my understanding.

I know how to use a tool and I'm very receptive to instruction. Once shown, I've pretty much got the jist of it. I had planned on removing the A12 on my week off between 8th-14th June. I have my own engine crane and stand but extremely limited tools and I don't have enough knowledge or confidence to do it on my own.

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who is willing to lend me a hand and teach me a thing or two and help me get this motor out sometime during those dates??

Food and beer on me and I am happy to reimburse for time and/or fuel.

I live in Melton West which is approximately 40 minutes from the Melbourne CBD.

A basic socket set, screwdrivers and a couple of spanners is all you need to remove an engine.

Take the bonnet off
take heeps of pictures of all wiring for future reference.
Take radiator out
remove all gearbox fluid, gear shifter, reverse lights wiring, clutch cable etc.
Then disconnect the fuel line, couple of wires, take the tail shaft out, gearbox mounts.
Then just unbolt the engine mounts and pull the bastard out.

Shouldn't take any longer than an hour.

I find its best to get some sandwich bags for all your nuts n bolts, label everything.
Also get some masking tape for the wiring and label where all that goes also.

Id give ya a hand if i was closer but best way to learn is to get your hands dirty, its only nuts n bolts, easily a 1 man job.

Busy day today! Engine removed and stripped down. Looks all ok except bore #4 has a bit of pitting in the wall. Inspecting the head gasket around that area would suggest water has gotten into the bore at some point and it has sat.

The rear welsh plug was F**KED! Otherwise all appears to be good.

Hopefully boring out 40 thou over will clean up the pitting...if not, will have to get another block.

Thanks Ernie. I would like to leave the option to go up later if needed so would prefer 40 thou for now.

Quick question about Welch plugs.

Front has 2 - 44mm (Cam) and 50mm?
Side has 3 X 35mm?
Rear has 40mm?

Is this correct? To me it looks like the front cam bearing is 40mm and the rear is 44mm but tech wiki says the cam is 44.

What size is the H89 A14 Head Welch plug size?

back of head is 1 x 40mm
side of block is 3 x 35mm
rear of block water is 1 x 50mm
rear of block cam is 1 x 44.4mm ( its a odd size )
