does anyone in Sydney aust or close by have the crossmember from a south african bakkie so i can compare it to a 1200 ute one.i've been using post 75 ute crossmembers in 1200's for years to give that factory engineered look, using 120y engine brackets, but as these are getting rarer & rarer now(you'se guys are repairing them, not wrecking them),i'm looking for another source.this might also help our friends in America,as i'm sure the rand is really weak against their dollar,& somebody could bring in a shipment for them.save all that fabrication.if they're the same,i'd like to know, & a friend has already got parts from nissan south africa for his ute(door glass).i also saw someone based in new zealand from south africa, who gave an address for a south africa speed shop,so they might help.hope someone can help,or might even know already.paul.

According the the Universal Currency Converter http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi $1 aussie dollar is about 5.5 rand.

My girlfriend and her family are from South Africa, most of their family lives in SA including her uncle who is a mechanic (oh, the possibilities I just thought of).

Her parents went back there a while ago, but I didnt ask them to bring back any parts. One day if we (my girlfriend and I) went to South Africa on holiday I would be running around every Datto specialist and wrecking yard. Imagine finding say, a 1993 model 1200 bakkie in a wreckers with only slight damage, imagine how cheap the parts would be!!!

I would love to buy an A14 (is that what the new models run?) almost brand new and ship it back here. Also a new interior like the dash and gauges, gearboxes, diffs, brakes etc etc

Wonder if there could be some money to be made by doing this shipping thing as you say Paul. Especially if I could get some good connections in South Africa.

Simon

yes, engine from injection to crossmember, plus 5 speed, wouldn't they all be lining up to give us money.now i've just got to make sure the crossmember is usable.have tried the crossmembers in 120y's & sunny's,but they go the wrong way,& the distance between the rails is different.

Looks like its you and me only that is interested Paul.

I spoke with my girlfriends mum tonight and she said if we give her some details of what we want ie. motor, box, interior etc and wether its Nissan Spare Parts or from wreckers, she will call her brother is South Africa and ask him to check out some prices for us. He is the mechanic I was talking about and he has plenty of contacts she said.

So give us a yell on what you want priced and as much info on it as you can give. Eg. a 5 speed gearbox from a 1994 bakkie. Or something like that, we need to be VERY descriptive in what we want.

Cheers for now,

Simon

went into the bakkie download site & this lead me to the south african nisan site,& then i found the parts list for the bakkie,so parts numbers shouldn't be a problem.with a part number it should be so much easier to order parts.check it out for yourself,it was a real bonus to find this.so hmmmm, how many 5 speeds do i want,2 sunny's,1 1200 coupe sports sedan,a friends sunny coupe, plus a spare each, that 6 so far. paul.anyone else want in on this.

I went there as well but I couldnt load the bakkie page. It comes up with an error as it cant find the page.

I checked some of the prices for those parts too. On the web site an A14 (1400) motor bare costs I think about $9000 rand which is about $1600 Aussie dollars. There are heaps of parts avaliable on thats web site like dash, diff, gearboxes etc.

I had visited this site before but never realised it had a parts locator online...what a bloody awesome site!!! I see a complete ute shell is available brand new for $NZ3250.00 what a bargain. My next project involves joining a coupe front cut to a ute rear section. It will give me the longer coupe doors and the 50mm lower roofline, and a bigger cab. I have been looking out for a damaged ute to use but it may be better to buy new parts from SA. I wish more manufacturers had sites like these.

Isnt www.nissan.co.za a great site! It actually gives you prices for parts! In SA rands mind you but thats a piece o piss to convert. Is any one else having trouble viewing the 1400 Bakkie link? I also dont get to see the pic/diagram of the parts too well (I only see the top half and cant scroll down to the rest of the pic).

whats annoying me (only slightly though) is i can't get the rotten things to print.would love to have copies with all relevant part numbers in my hands.i'm also going to se a friend who works for lintotts at rosehill to get a part number for the crossmember in australia & see if it's the same as the S.A. one.will post them.the price for a complete 5 speed appears to be about $3000,but excuse my math,i use to work for a bank.

Oy! What's the address of the website of which you speak?
Where is the bakkie download site? Is that in our download section? Sorry, I have to admit I've never checked it out. I'll go there now though.
Does it show if those cars are carbureted or fuel injected? I know A-series fuelie manifolds would sell like hotcakes if they could be found! I'd buy a couple.
