I had two different locks for my '73 1200. The door locks are from a Sentra. The ignition lock was lost. The trunk lock was originally from my '72 1200. I took all of the locks out of the car and took them to a quality locksmith. He replaced all of the tumblers and now I use one key for everything. The Sentra key is different but similar enough to work in the old worn 1200 ignition. I only use it to lock the steering column because the ignition switch has been shot for years. That cost me $40 US.

I only get one side of the ket cut though because I have had too many keys break off in the locks. When I had spares made at a local hardware and told the man to only cut one side, he was amazed that cutting only one side would work. He thought that both sides had to be cut. I told him about breaking keys in the past because they were too weak with both sides cut and that the tumblers were only on one side so I only needed one side of the key cut. He said that he learned something new every day.

Deadlocks as in the "security" or "Hi-Tek", but the main name brand is "Solex".
They replace the normal door and boot locks and they have a different pattern ot the straight up and down ones. They have the circular lock like the "D" bars on push bikes have.
Can't be screwdrivered.
But they probably wont help you with your two keys thing though....

I have a similiar problem with my 1000
it is more down to wear of the ignition barrel that you can put any key that fits in it and it will start. unlike the 1200 the 1000 has a generic ignition barrel in the dash, not on the column. I was wondering if it were possible to get a replacement or even one in the bike type lock mentioned. I dont want to have all my hard work undone in minutes by some lowlife criminal f#@kwit.

TO my knowledge you can't get the solex locks for your ignition barrel.
From what I have seen though, pretty much most DAtsun igniton barrels all have the same plugs so you can get one off a newer Datsun so that the barrel isn't as worn down. I have had 1200, 120Y, 180B and 200B ones in mine. So that might be worth looking at.
Try just putting a switch or guage on the dash where you ignition used to be?
Although I am not 100% sure of 1000's...

The question was asked earlier about keys matching.

In the US at least, all locks used the same key: doors, trunk (boot), ignition/steering lock and fuel-filler door. Same key for all.
