Hey guys, first post.
Just fishing for some advice for my as yet stock a15 - getting a hefty tax back pretty soon and thinking of having some work done to the engine to make it more reliable. Any suggestions? *edit* Also, anyone ever had problems with their fuel gauge? Mine seems to dip really low then come back up, then repeat the process over and over..

nice sunny, ive got a 79 sunny shockwave blue.. my fuel gauge used to dip and come back up, i cleaned the contact for the fuel sender, now it only moves if i go uphill or downhill.

You an also consider a bolt on setup that can be removed using your stock maifolds. eg. Toyota SC14 supercharger or IHI SC 1200, 1.75 inch stromberg, brackets and pulleys done by reputable in your area.

He said more reliable. Adding mods doesn't make it more reliable, just faster as its pushing parts more to their limits.
I go for reliable modifications. Just do cam, 32/36 webber elec dizzy And exhaust. Will make it more fun without detracting too much from reliability

Will make it more fun without detracting too much from reliability" If he said more reliable therefore a cam & 32/36 weber does not make it more reliable than stock cam and carb in any way. There are plenty of cammed, 32/36 and elec dizzie setups that go worse than stock and end up less reliable with glazed bores, bad Nox figures and no mid range ending up with a shorter lived engine that is not even close to its limits. As for limits, a well tuned A series are proven to be over-engineered reliable so to go further in reliability would mean easier to live with which would mean modern efi with crank angle ignition, quality deep cycle battery, good suitable oil, new oil pump and good cooling system. Well tuned boost with 150hp ate stock internals at below 6500rpm is still way within their limits. cam 120 32/36 350 adaptor 40 pipes 400-500 good setup dizzie 65-180 Jets 50-120

If you need a weber 32/36 upgrade setup I have one for sale. Send me a PM if you like. Includes oval port manifold, adapter and carburettor.
Also have electronic ignition upgrade kit for sale. A good strong spark is a must for first upgrade. Chris

so will the stupid thing start first go in the cold if i upgrade the coil and ignition system? pretty much just want it to start first go and idle properly so she doesnt die and embarrass me at the shops ;)

Sounds like a carburettor AND/or ignition problem to me. The stock a-series in good running order is quite reliable.
To make it more reliable all you need is a thorough service on you engine ignition and carb. Electronic ignition is a useful upgrade and many people will comment about a better engine start and crisper engine operation.

I would go electronic ignition then brakes, suspension before going fast make sure you can stop You can view topic.
