#1 L20b into 1200 ute
uteboy1200 Posted on: 2013/9/2 22:54
I was lucky enough to pick up a 79 200b to use the struts in my 1200 ute. Started thinking why not put the L20b in too!
Has anyone got helpful hints and tips on crossmembers to use and any tunnel mods required. Does the 200b rear diff assembly bolt on?
Is it easy to get mod plate for this set up in Queensland?
Also whats required to hook up the disc brakes?
Would like all the info before I attempt this project-Cheers

Look up engine modifications in tech wiki and search for L series

No

Cheers boys. The a15 is a bit tired. I hope the effort is worth it. Thinking twin 45's mild cam extractors.

L20B comes stock with a mild cam, which works great on 45s with the smallest 32mm chokes.

With 45 carburetors, you can go up to 40mm chokes to work with a camshaft that is hotter than stock. Something that makes peak power at 6500 RPM would be good with 40mm chokes.

For a higher RPM 2-liter engine, go larger than 45s.

And I wouldn't bother with extractors. The stock L20B cast extractor is more durable and good flowing just add a longer 2-into-1 exhaust pipe.

When you put the 200B struts in there, bolt the disc brakes on too. Then all you need is an appropriate brake hose one end which fits the 1200 hard line and the other end fits the 200B calipers. That's all it takes, no booster is needed.

See L. If you select the right L-series sump it is relatively easy. Use the 1200 engine crossmember with two simple flat plates welded on at the same angle as the L-series plates. If you use the right L-series gearbox, tunnel mod is to cut off the rear gearbox crossmember mounting bosses and bolt crossmember to the floor pan.

So I hear it just takes some time and a little money and some hard work.

200b struts arent bolt in.... you need smaller spring pearches as the stock one is too big for the 1200 towers

It is a relatively easy swap BUT there is no bolt in option for an l-series into a 1200, so if you cant fab your own parts or get someones old set up forget it.

things you will need to do:

1:modify the x member with mounts, you can weld stanza ones on or make new ones. may also need to scollop the x member i didn't need to but the l18 is shorter.

2:forward facing sump and pickup (stanza i think)

3:gearbox x member. you can make one or use one from maddat ca18 fitting kit.

4:clutch master cylinder.

5:throttle cable

6:gearbox túnel. you may or may not need to modify it, mine has just been massaged around the fire wall with a r30 box.

7:drive shaft will need to be shortened.

so its no harder than any other custom instal but defiantly not bolt in

According to the L article:
Quote:
L20B-powered 910 Bluebird sump and oil pick up to allow motor to sit as low as possible.

Stanza (A10) and 200B sumps are also front sumps but are slightly larger than the bluebird ones so the engine cant be sat as low

If there is any difference between a 910 Bluebird L20B sump and A10 Stanza L16 sump I'll eat my hat.
