Ok D, Steves 165 hp EFI Nismo engine is a prime example when your getting close to 1600cc LOL. My actual point was just the fuel I got 5% extra power , not up for a Pissin Contest

Correct no where near those higher figures, a real life race winning car
built for himself. He even sourced 2 sets of bearings discarded the tops
to use the bottom full channeled ones in banned Lead alloy to increase
crank life and let his customers know about these overlooked tricks.
This is at the end of 20th century many moons and water washed under
the A series knowledge bridge to harness his hp and tq needs.

1970,s ts cup race cars were getting 165 hp normally aspirated and reliable. Hence the word reliable. And im sure a speedway engine is build different than a 1/4 mile engine or hill climb engine or enduro. 20+ yrs later Steves 165hp is nearly 300cc bigger with EFI which clearly means its de-tuned greatly for reliability . What would it produce as a hand grenade ??

If we use Formula Atlantic motors as a guide you can probably get another 10% when you, only have to make one race weekend on a motor. Part of the increase is revving the motor an additional 600-700 rpm.

Back to the A13 increasing the output by 10% would take the motor to around 180-185 horsepower range. Someone with access to unobtainium parts and support could probably improve on that.

With the previously mentioned sports racer guys I remember here that they were spending $2,000 on custom cranks. That was back in the early 90s. It's amazing what you can do when you have a budget of $15,000 for an engine.

Thats the think we arent really interested in hand grenades being datsun fans
Drag A15 engines see 10k rpm with the 82mm stroke crank in Japan
The E15 has even less friction and lighter parts so can do better
belt driven ohc beats chain driven ohc for friction, probably the unicorn head
on an A series would be a rotary valve head like used in early holdens.

I can't remember if I mentioned it in this thread but there is an Japanese F2000 driver I sometimes pit next to. He's told me his friends back in Japan are spending way more money on there Sunny race cars than he de on his single seater. So yea I get it when we talk of power outputs and also realize that most members aren't racing their cars.

A 1600cc A series street motor could probably do 100-110hp at the wheels and not be a total bear to drive in traffic.

A16 engine

seems all the pistons are NLA now (Mazda B6, Subaru EF12, etc) and a custom set of 79mm pistons will set you back at least $500

No idea why the kb310 is more popular in japan
than the kb110 or even fairlady Z cars.
They must have been giant killers in the 80s
but never got into their boxy looks yet here
where I live, its the fave car of all the
gearheads I associate with but I prefer pre 80s.

RT are you allowed different heads on your race car?
eg. mazda twin cam head on an A series...

The last engine built for my coupe was 1525cc all the bells and whistles. Made 182 hp at the fly and 123 HP at the wheels. On e85. NA on twin 40 doce 2 webers. Over $7k worth of parts/ machining and Dyno time. Below is a link to one of the many power runs on the dyno
