its simple if you want a straight forward answer and want to stay nissan, oterwise options are endless

low budget $90-3000
a-14 or a-15
a-14 provides higher revs/ a-15 more tourqe
what do you want it for, i guess if your gonna use the tray to carry something heavy some tourque would be good

$3000-6000
a14 or a15 with all the mods and go fast bits aswell as a straight as body fresh paint big mags loud stezza

higher budget $6000-15000
ca18det maybe sr20det (lot harder arguably no better)

above $15000
would you really want a 1200 worth that
try checking out some skylines preffreable save some more cookies and get GTR

p.s. i said as low as $90 cause i picked up an a-14 block at the wreckers for that and arguably i could bolt that in for nothing, not including gaskets and oil though

I am planning to put a toyota T50 5 speed in mine, which makes sense seeing I plan to install a toyota 4age twincam down the track. does anyone know who makes the conversion kits? I heard there is some people in sydney called dellow , but I can't find anything on the web about them

cheers

Tom.

check out datrats web site (its in the links) , they have a few there at a reasonable price, they are based in victoria (aust). that is were i got mine from . mine did have a higher overdrive so it does go better on highways, i have never heard of a sunny box that didnt (although hearing about one atleast in tassie is rare anyhow)

Lobster, I think your wrecker may have things around the wrong way. Most of the 5 speed boxes are actually overdriven in 5th gear. The 1:1 5th gear (same as 4 speed) are the rare ones. But I may be wrong.....

Quote from a wrecker when he was telling me about the 5 speed he had in his 1200 ute
"They are rare as chicken's lips mate..."

I still got a 4 speed. Idealy I would like a 5 speed, but they are too rare in Australia. and if you do find one they will be overpriced. And, as (rumour says) mos tof the 5 speeds in Australia have the same ratio 5th gear as 4 speeds have 4th gear.

I am probably wrong about that though. Feel free to correct me.

osmo,a15's or a14's mostly came in 81 sunny (b310) wagons here in aus,or in c22 vanettes.they are becoming harder & harder to find.if you're very lucky, you might find a 5 speed behind the a15 in the sunny.this will go into the 1200 ute with the fabrication of a gearbox crossmember.in america,it seems a14/5's & 5 speeds are very common,so it all depends on where you are.you can also try the ozdat classifieds'as i notice there are several a15's for sale.you could also try some of the engine builders,as they sometimes have spares kicking around you can get out of their way.good luck looking,& remember,if you find 2,you could always sell the second to someone on this site.
