I met John Wayland, the guy in the picture, yesterday. He seems like a regular guy, but is clearly excited about his sport (drag racing, car audio, electric vehicles). I guess most of us here in this Club might be considered a little unusual too ... for spending so much time working and talking about Dattos.
The photo was taken for a magazine article. I think the lightning bolts are for John's ability to call up lightning

rather than the fact that the car is electric powered. There was the time John dropped a wrench on the batteries behind the front seats of White Zombie. A ball of fire appeared inside the car. To this day you can see the melted headliner and rear-seat trim, it is most thought-provoking to look at that twisted vinyl.
I watched White Zombie go down the track several times yesterday. The eerie thing is the noise. A loud squeal of tires is the only sound, although there is plenty of tire smoke. This car is quieter than a 1200 with a factory Nissan muffler -- and they were very quiet when new, ya couldn't hear 'em idle. The electric vehicles don't make any sound at "full throttle". Well, most of them ... there was one Nissan Z-car there with twin motors running in parallel which had a very loud whine when moving. I'm guessing it was from two large cogged belts driving an intermediate shaft. Most of the cars had DC motors driving stock transmissions, although some of the high-power ones like White Zombie were direct drive.
