Ok im not after performance just after another gear so it doesn't sit high in the revs at 100+km so after reading through http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... le=60-Series_Transmission .... the one that suits me best would be the 60a correct?? And so the mounting plate from b projects which I posted the link to would be all I need to fit the gearbox...thanks for all the help greatly appreciated

What's the best 5-speed?

If you want performance, the GX5 gearbox is best one.

But if you want to lower highway revs, its the worst one.

If you want a tough gearbox for supercharged engine, 63 is best one.

It is whatever you want. They are all good boxes.

GX 5-speed is the 56 series 5-speed. (Non-overdrive as weekend1000 has said).

column shift vanette wont fit
GX 5 speed is NON overdrive so it wont drag your revs down
63 box, good luck finding one!

that leaves the std shift or dogleg shift 60 boxes---both OK but I prefer std shift

+ with the 63, it needs more mods. Tailshaft length and a little 'massaging' the tunnel with a hammer.
Having said that, they can handle any a series

There are 4 different Datsun 5-speeds that bolt up to A-series engines. Each is a little different in how they are fitted. See http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawi ... -speeds#Swap_Instructions

Sorry bout that, didn't mean to worry you bout the swap. Getting the box in is a lot easier than some other swaps. You don't have to fit the reversing light switch, or clearance the transmission tunnel. If you can get that gearbox crossmember from BProjects that'd be great, but somebody like Stuart Wilkins at SWMotorsport would probably be able to make you something that'd work & mail it to you. To me a true bolt in is where you don't have to modify anything, like fitting an A15 into a 120Y or Sunny. Fitting the 5 speed is very easy, but there is some modification needed. The number for SWR is 02-4577-2400 or www.swmotorsport.com.au.
