#1 troubles.......

so my a12 runs and can drive the car down the down
it seems when i disengage the clutch the car stalls sometimes
but when i am giving the car power it doesnt stall with clutch disengaged
anyone have this problem before? i would like some advice
do i need cable adjustment or new clutch ......

When you disengage the clutch. So when you take your foot off the clutch pedal?

no i mean when i put my foot down on the clutch which disengages it

it usually happens when i go to press down on the clutch and put the shifter into 2nd without power, if i apply power while doing this it does not stall the car, any ideas im keen to resolve this problem

any ideas? Yes, one idea is that the idle speed is too low. Another idea is that the idle mixture is not properly adjusted. Or there is air leak causing the mixture to vary.

how steady should the idle be? should i be running more rich or lean?

i was thinking bad alternator or something but it push starts and i just put a new boosted alternator into it


yea that is true my carburettor seems to have a vaccum leak where the fuel resivior is, that might be the problem, thanks for the help im going to buy a carbi kit and replace all the gaskets. i will repost asoon as i rebuild the carburettor

Idle should be very steady. Do not adjust richer or leaner to try to fix it. Instead follow the proscribed procedure in any maintenance manual.

Carb kit is totally unnecessary.

What makes you think so? It is highly unlikely to have a leak there.

i recently sprayed carbi cleaner into the top of the carburettor and where the fuel rises up threw them 2 little pipes with the sharp tops -
, the carbi cleaner came out all out of the sides of the resivior,,,,,running a hitachi stock carburettor

so it might have big vaccuum leak instead of just a little hole.

my idle is very rough- lets say if my idle was 850rpm it will jump to 900rpm, 950rpm,900,850,880,950,850

That spray sounds normal.


The idle variance can be caused by incorrect adjustment.

well the the fuel resivior in the carbi is usually empty after like 30mins-1hour is that normal?
i have to hold the pedal to the ground sometimes and crank acouple of times to start

The fuel should be half way up the glass window, running your fuel bowl dry is not normal, your carburetor is using more fuel than it is receiving.

so... your carb is either not allowing fuel in or... a sufficient volume of fuel is not making it to the carb.

I recently had the exact same symptoms.

I replaced the carburetor as my top cover was warped and could not seal even with a new gasket kit.
Just doing the carburetor did not solve all my symptoms as i had alot wrong (many vacuum leaks).

Today I replaced my fuel pump and my car now runs fine.

Check your fuel pump from underneath, if it is excessively oily then i would consider changing it for a new one.

Before spending money on replacing the fuel pump, first run a new hose to the inlet of the carburetor and see if you can blow through the hose while your fuel bowl is empty.

If you can not blow air with the bowl empty (float down/needle open) then replace the needle and mini filter in the inlet, then reset your float so fuel is half way up the glass window on your carburetor.
