So everyone thinks I should change the diff to either a Borg or a hilux diff?

i like how you say a 400hp n/a 13b is 'nothing crazy'
the ute diff should hold it, but if you want an lsd they can be pretty expensive for the h165

if you have to shorten a housing i'd go for the hilux because they are very common, have decent factory
lsd's and you can get just about any ratio that you can dream of

Hilux are a top choice but once you shorten them,
leaf spring mounts to suit right stud pattern mods
is 2000+aud depending on purchase price and place
doing the work for you or doing it yourself.

Bluey H190 un-shortened + Jap H190 LSD is better
as Rotary peeps bust the strong 177.5mm & inch
mazda rotary diffs and go for hilux or 9 inch.

Rotary diffs with 4.875 centres are stronger than H165
metallurgy/quality is Nissan-like but not up to turbo 13b
torque or abuse for long before they give up the ghost.

I can get the LSD units to fit the H190 bluebird which has
correct stud pattern 4 x 114.3mm & bluey diffs are cheap
and 1450mm vs 1305mm for H165 so no shortening required
if you have the right offset wheels 40-45mm is nothing.

So un-shortened bluey diff $120 at most wreckers like pickapart
and LSD unit 950 from Japan & modded mounts around 1300 total.
Alloy carrier option also available for H190 for lightweight.



H145 5.71 ~100 lb. ft.
H150 5.91 ~125 lb. ft.
H165 6.50 ~225 lb. ft.
H190 7.49 ~285 lb. ft.
R200 7.88 ~300 lb. ft.

Hilux has the wrong stud bolt pattern.

Since you will be running a non-turbo rotary, just use the stock ute diff. Re-drill the axle bolt pattern or get different wheels. Get a Topgear LSD or a TRD LSD but but unless you are drag racing it isn't really needed.

Don't think I've put enough info down before. My Ute has had the chassis rails narrowed and notched. I will be running 20 x 10 inch wheels, 4 link kit and a full air bag kit. So yes I am airbagging her.
There for I know no matter what diff I get I will need to shorten and leaf springs are no issue due to not having or needing them.

good for BIG - hp with my billet axels and 4.11 ratio

just as easy to get your hand's on as the hilux diff but has the benifit of that you can just buy a mcdonalds racing or some 4link kit and it will fit easy just weld

That looks like a BW78 which is

it may certainly be a BW78 i have not checked the i'd tag on it in a while

i got it from a holden/GM

28mm billet axels.. 4.11 ratio.. LSD

Ok so a borgwarner diff it is. What car did they come in mainly? I will take a trip to the old wreckers this afternoon!!!

A BW78 is a 9-bolt, not 9".
