what does the ballast resistor even look like? i should have one..
is it like a small cylinder type thing?
it should be connected to the positive wire going out from the coil if im right but i cant seem to find it...

Generally, a defective ballast will allow the engine to start, but not idle.


Have you replaced or tested the fuel filter? It should pump 450 ccs through it in 60 seconds at idle.

can anyone repost the links i posted and show me where the ignition fuses and ballast resistor is? :)

What Kind a Datsun is that? I'm no familiar with an 'ignition' light.

where is the ignition fuses? my fuse box isnt numbered with anything....
i tested my first spark lead while turning the starter over and the spark was very yellow and faint
im not sure where my ballast wire is because my wiring setup is all mixed up ..

Key ON Engine OFF, the CHG and OIL lamps should light. If the do not the fuse may be bad.

im not sure if its running to rich float level is alright, it seems as its asif its not getting spark or something,
i have no ignition light and oil light when i turn the key before startup can anyone explain that?

Too rich? It would explain why it runs with no choke on
