Well air filters block the air bleed holes making car run pig rich and like crap. Petrol started pooling in the air bleed holes again. Need find other filter set up.

anyway took filters off and car idling better but rough. Fill up 98 retard timimg still detonates.
Something not right. Midrange awesome. Idle now crap and still detonates at 5k with 98. But free rev now and gets reverb at 5k from cyl 1 only

bring it home and remove needle washers. Increase idle bleeds to 4 turns out better off idle meaning need bigger pilot jets but car rough as.
Pulled head off and yep blown head gasket.



Decided put a stock a87 head with milder wade cam for now.
Its almost 3am mrs just came and told me time. Wooops. Gotta be up 7

but on a bonus my old lpg l16 still looks great with flat top pistons.
Debating on putting this in stanza with a higher rpm cam.... compare it on petrol to what it was on lpg.

some website I found

well after getting a lovely drawing in the mail telling me my car and my tuning methods were annoying one neighbour who didnt leave a name I apologised to my direct neighbours who didnt care- except the older one who thought I was disturbing another one who has a 6 month old baby.
Any way:
Reset all carb floats and cleaned all pilot jets and passages. car only spat 10ml out overflow (only once too when was cold) but it canes to 6500rpm..... bit rich as some poping out exhaust on slow down and idle at times.
This is with stock closed chamber a87 head wade 733 cam and 10deg advance. Old plugs I sanded down to clean as they looked like had been pig rich and fouled up.

so looking at plugs head and pistons when changing the gasket not all info I was reading was pointing me to the correct direction----- forwards.

I dont trust all I read on net but theres not much for tuning cv bike carbs on a car motor. If you find any its usually for r1 carbs.
I will do a write up of what worked for me once I get it tuned with a/f ratios.

as for my occasional carb bowl spiting, going to hook up a return line to tank and if it goes haywire at least I know fuels going back into there not all over engine bay.

Simon and ivan might be right on this gravity feeding thing I think

Just took datsun 15km drive. No spitting out carbs and does 100 on freeway ok still pulling in 3rd. Cruises at 100kmh in 4th better than 5th. Idles at 1100rpm though. Too rich under that and it floods a bit. Some random popping out exhaust at idle in traffic but guess bit rich or bit more timing needed. I can still lean out the idle and richen midrange a little if needed. Dont want to touch til a/f meter or dyno.

but made up another set of mesh filters to keep big stuff out. Used a finer mesh then on webber. Found frying anti splatter sheilds lol.




Next I found a circle to use a pencil to trace my filter. Needed it slightly bigger than 60mm so theres a lip to grip on the carb. I used a moulded cast mark on the lid of my bin



Next pushed it over edges of the carb and trimmed to fit nicely. As its mesh it holds its shape ok.



Next needed to hold the mesh to carbs, I had a length of 63mm heatshrink I got from some where free but just kept it in case it ever came in handy. It did




Used a hair dryer to shrink the heatshrink. I figured under bonnet heat will tighten it up more over time



not great at dust filtration but good at keeping big stuff out. Going to put socks over them when I get some too.

why wouldn't you use hose clamps so you can re attach them quicker?

The mesh? Cause im too tight to buy big enough hose clamps when I had the heat shrink for free

Ok I don't mean to hijack your forum but, did you ever fix the flooding of carb# 4? I have bs34 and my #4 carb floods when the choke ow off but is fine when the choke is on. And yes I do have a gravity setup... Can anyone enlighten me here?

Flooding fixed. You need to clear out the pilot and air jets and passages. Also check your float settings and if it leaks
