It simply means the valve seats in 5 different angles. Even simpler - it makes airflow somewhat smoother and seals a lot better. Works best with dual valve springs

Mmmm...I wonder if you could machine the oval ports round just to a few millimeter's depth and then smooth it into the usual porting...

I heard that without the last 30 and 15 degrees you get less eddies so using a 3 angled job is better for boost applications

Yea its a pretty tough little thing!

They are kiehin itbs off a cb900 road bike

And the more I think about it I wish I made tbe runners longer but room was an issue

The 2 inside runners have more bends than th outside runners but it shpuldnt be too much of a problem if I smooth the inside with a dremel

Sorry to dig this up again but I have recently bought a 1200 coupe with an a14 that has r1 itbs and has a crank trigger setup and megasquirt, now seeing as I have aset of 36mm itbs for my a15 (fairly worked motor) and this coupe has a freahened up a14 with a small cam with 40mm itbs im not sure what to do

The r1 setup doesn't have trumpets and requires an external regand is also a dick to adjust idle with as it used idle bypass screws while the 36mm setup has a set of idle bypass nesdles all adjusted by a idle screw and has an allowance for a choke cable setup for cold start

The r1 setup is slightly larger in bore size and it has straighter runners than my manifold due to the itb spacing, so I am weighing up the 2 as im chasing the mkst power I can get for my worked a15, will 4mm in butterfly diameter make much difference or am I better off going for the smaller setup that has better features for tuning and everyday driving?

You got any photos of the two set ups estyre?
Guy here in NZ is running 45mm TB from a 4AGE and getting around the 130 RWHP mark.
I suppose its all about where you want your power and what cam etc. your engine has.
I have been looking into this myself and have not yet found any set up / Photos I'm happy with,
really want to as you say straighten up the runners and lengthen. How close are the center to center measurements on the R1 ITBs
