some people like myself really appreciate the sound of a blow off valve, it add's to the experience and brings a smile to your face when you hear that noise coming from an a-series (and they are a throw away item so cost is not a factor)

the "a bit flat" was in reference more to carby vs. EFI really, the possibilities to tune for on-boost and off-boost with EFI means you can have the best of both worlds, where the carby setups tend to be setup as a compromise or either for on-boost or off-boost. More technically put - the area under the power/torque graph is going to be much larger with EFI

inlet pipe temp is not so important (even if it is icing up) it's the post turbo/inlet to engine temp that is critical, the turbo is the heater in the system and if you can't cool that air post turbo you are going to lose out somewhat

in fact if your pre-turbo piping is icing up the only cause of this would be extremely high air speeds, perhaps it is a good indicator that you need to increase your piping sizes pre-turbo as this may be restricting your system

In my experience, I have used a carbon sealed t25 turbo and a cd 175 stromberg carby off a sigma turbo. Very simple setup suck through setup, not too expensive, it's easy to remove if needed but I don't know how it goes as it's not finished. If this goes well I won't go efi. The most expensive part has been forged pistons and getting the turbo carbon sealed.
