What did Andrew's 1200 do before he switched over to the CA18?

My mates HYP014, blue 1200 coupe, was running low 14's. This was a full custom setup he hand made, even MoTec controlled injection.

It is now turboed....

My old A14 had run 14.2 at gulgong drag strip on street tyres (it was on old backroad closed for the day) traction was pretty crap I never ran it down at eastern creek I suspect it should have run high 13's even maybe mid 13's with slicks. was pretty quick off the mark just didndt have the huge top end power of the turbo donk.
cheers Andrew

The one tsillay mentioned is the fastest accelerating A12 naturally aspirated I've ever heard of:

Quote:
The Tony Marsh shellsport coupe ran 13.6 at 101mph in 1981 at meremere, all 1298cc and 578 kg of it....

Now you definately couldnt drive that one in traffic....

An A14 can match that ... but has there every been another A12 that fast in the quarter?

It was an incredible car. It won shellsport that year, against much fancied opposition (eg, the twincam escort in this photo)
Tony is an engine builder, still builds probably the best A series engines in the world.
He quotes the engine in this car as 163hp, said it was to this day the best 1300 he's ever done.
The car still exists, in a garage in auckland. Now has a LZ16 atlantic engine, but has never turned a wheel in anger..
