Its a bit hard DD to clearly read the seal number

Since its a Borg Warner diff, its different from the Hitachi stuff.

Axle shaft diameter - 30mm
bearing OD - 60mm

The only markings I can find are on the axle seal - Plaseal 18557

Since the axle diameter is 30 mm -- the same as an early made-in-Japan axle -- you can use a standard Datsun 1000/1200 retainer.

RockAuto.com

CAUTION: It is a different thickness than the BW retainer, so if the seal goes over the retainer, the seal would need to be different, or the correct BW size retainer should be used.

The standard 1200 seal is for a 41 mm O.D. retainer (1.6 inch).

18557 is a standard seal:
* width: 0.313 inch
* Bore: 2.471 inch
* shaft size: 1.875 inch

Well the whole project was very successful.

The bearings that I was supplied were slightly different than the ones that came off the axles, but they fitted fine none the less.

They were slightly longer and used a small o-ring to help seal around the housing. The old ones were a interference fit only.

Regardless, they fitted in fine, and the diff/housing is back together and new owner is happy with the end product.

Thanks DD for the help

Glad to hear it worked out OK. What was the part number of the new bearings?

sorry for the late reply DD.

It was a Timken kit, but I didn't get the numbers from the bearing before it went in.
All I have is the part # from the supplier which wont be of much use to anyone outside of Australia, but for reference.

Statewide Bearings - 2742 Wheel bearing kit. Contains new bearing and retainer plate.
