"Some racers use an 70mm A12 crank in an A14 block, with 133mm (stock) A14 rods and stock piston pin height race piston. They would then deck the A14 block down to make the pistons at deck height."

Well that means it has been decked 3.5mm from stock deck height :)

I can go with 3.2mm and then have the piston +0.3mm above the deck and a chamfer on the piston crown.
Does the piston stand proud of the deck in stock A14?
This is for budget A14 race engine. Stock lightened polished rods.
I rather drop deck height to get higher CR than skim the head and then have to make deep valve relieves :(

Thanks for the input so far guys :)

Another option of offset grind on the crank that can get me 0.5mm?
But that ads to cost and ruins crank regrind space :(

Definitely not. For best power, the piston-to-head clearance (Quench) should be less than .030 inch, which means using an extra-thin gasket (like the GX gasket).

That is why I will go for 0.3mm above deck :) And stock gasket.
What is the stock A14 gasket bore?

Can also install a block guard after decking the block so much but this is to expensive :(

Just make sure the block you use you measure the height to make sure somebody has not already decked it as that could throw the maths out on what you need.
