Hi members :)
What is the maximum that an A14 block can be decked by?
Hoping for 3-4mm :/

No one knows as it is very, very rarely done. I imagine 4 mm is too much. 3 mm might work - use washers on the head bolts to compensate, and use custom-length pushrods.

There is one safer and better way to go than perhaps ruin your block and cause sealing issues especially if it was already decked.

You could while your engine is out use taller oversize pistons from a 3k or 4k corolla as they are 36mm but since its so much more you need to make up (3-4mm)

might as well source an A15 crank and presto instant sprout in ya shorts :)

Let me make it a bit more clear :D
I want to fit 29mm pistons :)
And use the 77mm stroke :)

What about making the head bolt holes a bit deeper?
Usually do it, but I am no A14/15 expert

You will need A14 pistons at minimum if u want to use the A14 crank!
what bore are the pistons if their height is 29mm?

You really should use the A15 crank, in Japan 10,000 rpm A15
engines regularly see the drag strip in an A series only comp

Bore is 78mm
Seems to me like a perfect piston :)
A14 pistons has huge drag :(
And A15 crank is to scarce/expensive

But yes A15 crank would have been great!

77 mm stroke is the stock A14 crankshaft.

29 mm pistons are not very good for an A14 engine. Pin height is 32.5 mm for A14 pistons, and 30 mm for A15 pistons.

Thanks. But why do you say 29mm pistons are not good for an A14?
1.73 rod stroke ratio is good for 29mm piston.

29 mm pistons are not very good for an A14 engine, because you would have to use custom rods.

On the other hand, with the custom rods, the rod/stroke ratio improves and it will be add 1/3 of 1 HP, so definitely worth spending a few hundreds of dollars.

On race engines in the USA, I have seen racers deck several mm off of the A14 block. 3 to 3.5mm. I would not recommend it unless it is your only option.

Some racers use an 70mm A12 crank in an A14 block, with 133mm (stock) A14 rods and stock piston pin height race piston. They would then deck the A14 block down to make the pistons at deck height.

Other racers would instead use 136mm rods (or longer rods with shorter custom pistons) and not deck the block. I used the 137-138mm rods with shorter pistons, leaving the block height near stock (just decked to clean it up).

If you deck the block several mm you have to shorten the head bolts, and you have to deepen the dowel locators to locate the head. Again, I would not recommend it unless you have no better option.
