So you went with the red S13 adjustable LCA's that were pictured earlier in your thread. Did you end up modifying (shortening) them ? How are you going for track width as wheels still appear to be hanging out a bit.

It looks like you end up with heaps of room inboard (between strut and rim) compared with the 120y strut setup.

Very interested to follow your build and hear what the ride quality is like with this setup.

Keep up the good work.

I did use the S13 LCA's. For now I have removed the locking nut at the base of the spherical bearing which reduces the length by about 12mm (It will be machined and re-threaded shortly so the nut can be replaced). It still pushes the track out a little, but not as badly as with the full length LCA. The photos above from the back of the car are with the LCA's at full length, the latest shot is with the lock nut out (i.e 12mm shorter). The rims fit easily at the shorter length. I am keen to see how it will ride and handle as well, I have 4kg springs so it won't be as harsh as if the 8kg S13 springs were left in.

Good work man ! I'm in the process of painting my r31 diff and getting it rebuilt in a couple of wks ! Question ..... How does the ute sit with the diff ? What sought of clearance do you have between the guard and wheels ?

Diff was a MADDAT item with the R31 brakes etc and made to standard width. There are a few issues with some clearances but that's mostly due to the brakes. The handbrake bracket fouls on the chassis where bump stops hit, also I have to get creative with the bump stops as the brake lines have been fitted on top of the diff so I can't install in the standard position. I probably will have to run new hard lines for the rear brakes. I will have to spend some time fiddling with these but they are only minor issues that can be sorted pretty easily. As for the way it sits, it uses the standard springs and shocks so it shouldn't change much to what you have now.

Dam really !! I've hade my diff pretty much identical to the Maddat one standard lenght ect.... But I had my flex hoses made a little longer to get around the the bump stops and I will be running the hard lines over the top of the diff and diff head not around the back and over the rear cover ! I haven't re drill the claiper brackets yet to reverse them brakes .... So you say the little hand brake lever that the hand brake cable is attached to hits the chassis ?

Yeah Meandatto it is hitting on the platform for the bump stops, you can see the white mark where it has hit in the photo. It fouls by quite a bit which is disappointing, I might have to cut the platform to clear the caliper.
Also I think the mount for the flexi line joiner is a bit close to fit the bump stops even if I changed the brake line.
i will have a play over the weekend and come up with a solution.

Yea i though when looking at the Maddat diff the mount for the flex hose bracket was a little to close to the bump stop .... I moved mine a good 50mm away from the leaf spring perch and had some flex hoses made longer ! But thanks for letting me know about the handbrake bracket I'll have to check that out on the Wkend ....

That's a pain in the ass it doesn't fit up when the diff should be a bolt in !

Progress is excruciatingly slow, car has been at fabricators for 10+ weeks and have been struggling for time on other bits lately.
Have bought a new engine stand and now going to give some attention to the CA getting it ready to drop in hopefully in the next few weeks!
Good news is that although it has been sometime since I have done a reasonable amount of work on the Datto, the enthusiasm is still strong so once it's back things should progress at a reasonable pace... that's the plan anyway.

Haven't been updating much but have slowly been chipping away at the build. I have put up a check list on the garage wall so now when I get out I can work on marking items off!
All new brakes installed, calipers rebuilt and 4kg springs installed in coilovers.

Brake booster / master and clutch master mounted. All that is left is brake hard lines. Engine bay is being repainted as some touch ups I did from the install were a bit rough and I wasn't happy with the finish. It looked OK in the garage but under natural light was rough as guts.

Have also been getting the engine ready. New gaskets, spark plugs, alternator, timing kit etc. Checked inside and all looks OK. Will not be building it yet.
Had the covers off and gave them a sand blast today. Was going to sand to paint but thought I would go a bit further and try giving them a polish. First time I have tried this, just used a few grades of sandpaper until down to 2000 grit, then busted out the old drill metal polish kit. I'm reasonably happy with the finish, still needs a little work but coming along. I still need to do the valve covers and maybe will have to go a little finer on the sand paper for one more pass.
