I was thinking of checking it out after someone posted similar on Facebook. I'm still holding thumbs for a stock ecu and will need to work out all the ins and outs from the manifold in the simplest way possible.. With the egi exhaust manifold what does the pipe out the back do?

So the units in the 200SX article are from the Z20E 200SX?
Yes. It can use parts from any vehicle that uses the Hitachi version of the L-Jetronic. That means S30 L28E, 610 Bluebird SSS L18E, 810 Bluebird L18E, S110 Z20E/Z22E, etc. Any Datsun setup from the 1970s or very early 1980s.

What about using the GA16 or E15E systems common in wrecking yards in Australia? I'm quite sure the E15E was of a similar era to the Z20E?
Perhaps, but then you'd want to use the E15E distributor which is a special trigger wheel version that works with the ECU.

Connect it to a muffler using 1.75" or 2" exhaust pipe.

The Datsun EFI system uss a 40 psi fuel pump. Get the Pump and its damper off the S110, or from a 280Z, 280ZX or other Datsun with EFI. Or you can use a generic EFI fuel pump if the psi is close. That Datsun fuel regulator (on the engine fuel rail) is adjustable.

for more information, see "Fuel Pump" section in our EGI article.

It is a standard exhaust manifold, only larger internally with better casting design.

The tubes are for EGR. Just plug them if you are not using EGR.

Some comments on using a stock Datsun ECU. It is a great budget solution. If you can't find all the parts in used condition for a cheap price, then it may be cheaper to buy a MegaSquirt ECU kit for $300.

What you will undoubtedly hear from other Nissan enthusiasts:

1. It's too old and unreliable.
Not according to the guys using it. There are 280Zs still running 40 year old ECUs.

2. It's simpler to use aftermarket ECU.
Not true, the factory ECU will run with the same minimum components, and already has wiring. If you can get all the needed parts together, factory is your easiest solution. No tuning necessary on a stock or near stock engine.

Did you end up using a 200sx ecu with your setup David? I am keen to use something as stock as possible.

did you remove the EGR stuff from your setup? I'd be interested to know what needs blanking off and if it affects the running.

Thanks again for all your help.

Cheers,
Tom

I did not finish mine, ended up giving away the ECU. But others have used the ECU on A-series engine.

EGR is EGR, nothing special or particular about the EFI engine, no engine needs EGR, but newer vehicles are required to have it. Tech article EGR discusses it.

No need to remove it. If it is bolted on, just plug the hoses to disable it. If you want to remove the gear, you'll need to create a custom blanking plate.

Thanks David.
With regards to the egr items do they need to be plugged with anything special?

Thanks,
Tom
