Here's my gasket next to the manifold. It's the same as above. Did your gasket look the same?

I got mine done about 2 yrs ago. Got a 10mm plate off Chris. As I recall the bloke charged me 4 hrs labor in total ($300) The plate looks right as Bolt 1 n 3 basically lined up.... But by looking at it now in your pic, I really didnt think that much was taken out of the top!! I followed a thread from (datto someone??) and half way through the conversion, I managed to get an original egi manifold. Im curious now and will have to go for a rummage through my garage to look at it again.

I wouldnt use a plate personally theres enough meat to port and add material on the outside but also have to say the little cheap sanding stones I find perfect for porting alloy manis, you will go through a few but using a strong drill its so much easier if you have a steady hand. Ive done a few different manifolds from different makes using both a quality dremel and sand stones and have to say the sanding it much easier once you get the hand of it. Thats just me but the material comes of easily if you get the right rpm and leaves a rough even surface.
Im just saying if you play your cheap cards right no need for exxy dremel setup.

Im pretty sure the Hyundai setup is worthwhile for access to the mitsubishi hyundai ecu, loom and anything you neet for your setup. They are superior for economy than the early stuff (also piggyback possible if you go to the lancer/mirage forums) and if going aftermarket ecu that manifold would be much better than original restricted one.

A Dremel works fine if instead of sanding stones, you use the metal cutting bit.

If you have access to dremel kit by all means otherwise the stones do work
providing you put enough pressure and correct rpms just like ti drill bits.
I wouldnt slice the mani face if adding an alloy plate the extra thickness
after welding gives more depth for injector port flow corrections.

I cut the bits off today then had a wedding to take so will clean them up tomorrow and post some pics. I won't use plate will just take to it with the die Grinder.

Do ya reckon its an advantage putting throttle body facing forward?

Or shall I just do a 90 degree bend it to the side for filter??

I started grinding rugged runners or today and then wondered about how I will build up the opposite side. I've heard of people using epoxy? What is this brand and is it safe to use?? Eg won't chip off in the future.

Or is it better to get a 10mm plate shaped up as a progressive edge from head to runner ports?

Advise appreciated :)

Hey chris,
I went to the wreckers to find a Hyundia efi manifold but couldn't find one that close - was it a Excel and what year ?
Cheers dp

Are you planning to cut and re-weld a flange on?? Most people just port the ports. You're just making more work for yourself if you're cutting flanges off and welding new ones on. With all that plenum you'd need a professional to weld it up, adding to your costs. You'd also need to be careful not to affect the injector bosses while welding, which is just about impossible which means you'd need a professional again to weld it and machine it all back so things are clear again. By the time all that is paid for you could have bought a Factory EGI unit.

Just borrow a 240V die grinder (a real one not a home boy dremel) and use the gasket to mark up the alignment.
