Mazda FE3 engine with forged crank from factory with large forged connecting rods, large journal dimensions, oil cooler, piston oilers, web-stiffened block with main girdles.

Good for up to 600 HP stock by adding Turbo.

Its Mazdas connection with Ford so its like a cheap BDA cosworth
There is an old page almost 20 years old now about an mx5 using
this engine instead of the 1.8 as its such a beast.

He is a SR20DET 1200 coupe running 3 seconds faster

Yes, the SR20DET requires extensive mods to make 600hp. Which is why the FE is so beloved. Sounds better than the SR20 too.

Great motors, but they like breaking timing belts ! Got a rare mint 86 626 GT with FET 2.0 I will get around to one day fixing (broken timing belt).

Timing belts are good but peeps dont change them while they should
and even when they do they put third party rubbish when factory is
far superior from the usual suspects.

FEs dont need billet blocks from bullet engines and neither does
the 4g63 which is the worlds fastest & most powerful factory 4 cyl.
Even the little A series is tough with its iron encasement.
Supposedly alloy SRs & Honda blocks are only used for a couple of runs.
