I would like to give you advice but untill yesterday I didn't even know whether an A series box would fit a CA!
( But I got 1200rallycar to thank for that!)
Yeah so CA ain't my thing so I will be learning like you!

Hi all...

I've recently logged in as a member and have already discussed this with a few other members already (thanks for your help) but I thought I'd throw this topic out for everyone, especially as it may already have been done to death and there is information abound.
I'm looking to get hold of a 1200 coupe as a project car and am trying to get as much research done as possible prior to the actual purchase. The queries I have so far are:

1: CA18 Pros - better motor, new technology, more power. Cons - degree of difficulty, purchase cost and maintenance costs.

2: A Series Pros - ease of installation, easy to repair, less modification required. Cons - power, not configured for ULP (am I wrong about that ?).

This goes for the gearbox as well (a 5 Speed is a must).

I guess what I'm getting at is this - Exactly how much of a nightmare is a CA18 conversion. I'm not interested in the turbo (I have an XR2 Turbo), but living in Perth, I do have to consider our strict rules considering vehicle modifications. If it helps with your answers, I got intermediate mechanical abilities.

I'm at your mercy guys - If you could share your expertise and experiences it would certainly help point me in the right direction. Thanks again. Anton
