I am glad for you that it was easily fixed!
You must have just made it sound bad! But still can't work out why only first did this? Anyway!

Could have been just that the cable was beginning to fray. Had accelarator cables do that to me three times now. if you run your fingers along the cables and you don't get blood then it is fine. If you get thousands of little tiny needles digging into your skin then it could have been that. Mean that it will probably stick inside as well...
But it wasn't that so don't worry...
