Ha ha ha! That's the same thing that goes on over here with NASCAR! Every dumbass hillbilly thinks his front wheel drive, V6, slushbox, Lumina, Taurus, or Intrepid is the same as those rear wheel drive, V8, manual tranny, tube frame, racecars they watch go in circles for three hours! I like to ask them to show me the Ford 9" rear end in their Chevy, or have them point to the carburetor and distributor on their V8. Now as to the original issue of the Monaro, or whatever it was, having an unfair advantage, if it met the "letter of the law" as it was at the time of the race, more power to them. It does seem, from reading earlier posts, that they were given some special leeway in the rules. If that is the case, then I'd have to agree that it isn't fair. As for the "so and so was winning until he broke/crashed/whatever" argument, that's nice on paper to make one feel better, but it's the final result that will be remembered.

And here I thought it was Genital Motors that made the cars so that they fall apart! But seriously, I haven't seen this new "GTO" yet. I'm looking forward to it. There is a Pancho dealer right up the street from me and I scan the lot every day. Ok, that's a lie, I almost never look at that lot. I am excited about another RWD V8 though! Bring back American, oops I should say Australian muscle cars! Yee-haw!

Looks slightly Mustang-esque to me. How do they compare size wise?
Is it true that it is available with a six speed, at least down there?

The red photo above looks like a Celica (the yellow doesn't), but the Monaro is much bigger, isn't it?
It looks good in the Autoweek Photos. In any case, the one we're supposedly getting is GM Gen III 5.7 liter (Corvette). And it's mid size car in american terms. It is also supposed to have 350 lb-ft of torque, but don't count on it, cause that's a Net torque rating which is all so confusing as to really exactly how much torque that is. We should probably continue this discussion in the existing topic "pontiac GTO/holden Monaro". Getting back to the topic, the Bathurst sounds like a great racing event. After re-reading this, it sounds like they did what Nascar does regarding "stock" cars: the body panels must be in production, but the engine, drivetrain, suspension doesn't. But even Nascar fudges on that and lets body changes happen for the sake of "competition", meaing if the Chryslers are losing, they let them use a more advantageous wing size to keep up. So it sounds like Holden needs special allowance to "be competitive" with production-based Porsches and Ferraris ... is that a fair summation?

Yeah, I think it is just pretty much the same type of thing going on here.
But with Holden Monaro instead of Nissan Skyline and a different group of people are upset about it...

wrong!!!!
the skline was a production car and was kicked unfairly, if they sell that holden to everyone then they can race i but they aint gonna do that so thats where the problem is, any joe bloggs could buy a gtr skline with the same motor and stuff as the race car yes? obviously not same tunning but then it would be unsuitable for road use You can view topic.
