Ha ha ha! That's the same thing that goes on over here with NASCAR! Every dumbass hillbilly thinks his front wheel drive, V6, slushbox, Lumina, Taurus, or Intrepid is the same as those rear wheel drive, V8, manual tranny, tube frame, racecars they watch go in circles for three hours! I like to ask them to show me the Ford 9" rear end in their Chevy, or have them point to the carburetor and distributor on their V8. Now as to the original issue of the Monaro, or whatever it was, having an unfair advantage, if it met the "letter of the law" as it was at the time of the race, more power to them. It does seem, from reading earlier posts, that they were given some special leeway in the rules. If that is the case, then I'd have to agree that it isn't fair. As for the "so and so was winning until he broke/crashed/whatever" argument, that's nice on paper to make one feel better, but it's the final result that will be remembered.

Quote: just wondering if any blokes in any other country heard about the 24 hour Bathurst race held in Australia over the weekend, won by a holden monaro Naw, didn't hear about Bathurst (this weekend was the NASCAR clincher -- that's stock cars for y'all down under), but I saw the Monaro on the cover of AutoWeek a few months ago, and thought it was pretty nice. Now that I know it won this big race -- and beat Porsche and Ferrari! -- I really want one.

remember way back when the seira cosworth at bathurst that shat all over every thing and the protests that folowed about the fuel it was running and all the rest it was only the begining of the wake up call to the v8 boys that u can get 300hp out of a 2liter donk in an 800kg car some ppl here are probly tooo young to remember but that was way back in the early 80,s then nissan came with godzilla that ended the austrlian touring car series in an instant these were real race cars not out dated push rod v8 tractor engines from the 30,s for any jap company to get in to the "australian super car series" thay have to run a push rod v8 now how backwards is that crap must be only chev and ford that still make push rod v8s and ford australia after this year will no longer be makeing the push rod donk as even thay have worked out that over head cam is where its at... but i guess companys like holden that sell this out dated crap have to make there dinasors still look like thay can cut the mustard... love to see a new munro against a new skyline i know where i would be puting my money... theres bobs drunken rant for tonight cheers

then all the V8/Holden people would have been doing the same type of thing...
sorry, what do you mean??? making excuses like we are for why the skyline won instead of why the manaro won
i forgot the 200sx's, more jap than i thought, they were dissapointing too!!!

If they had bought in some sooper dooper skyline or supra or something from Japan and it had won, then all the V8/Holden people would have been doing the same type of thing... It's always going to happen. I say give Holden the credit for winning the race. But as I said before I would rather have seen something more classy win... But it didn't.
EDIT oh yeah, and the mirage's were doing better than the 200sx's for a bit. They had 150kw at the wheels or something? Mivec Cyborg engines in them... Pretty cool...

i hate it when people say stuff like the porsche was winning for most of the race till it crashed, that means nothing, it didnt win and it wont get remembered cause it didnt do the one thing it came to do, race for 24hrs, and it goes home empty handed, no what ifs and if that didnt happens
they are just excuses, the holden did win and should be recognised for winning not the car that won because this car didnt, though i still hate the bloody manaro
i was suprised to see that there were no Jap cars used in the higher classes at all, pretty much the only ones i remember are the wrx's and lancer's which stand no chance at bathurst cause they are too much accel not topend, and the mirages which i was suprised to see at all, oh and the s2000 which didnt impress, and the 350z which they didnt feature at all in the tv shows much to my annoyance, but i think it did o.k.

And then u said: i dont drink beer i drink BEERS ....i think we could truly be soul partners The most important thing to remember about the 24Hr is that despite that hunk of bull$@ they called a monaro, a Porsche was beating it before it crashed out! WHY DIDN"T SOMEONE TELL ME THAT THERE WERE NO RULES, I WOULD HAVE ENTERED MY 1200 IN WITH A MAIN ROCKET BOOSTER FROM ONE OF THOSE SPACE SHUTTLES STRAPPED TO THE ROOF. BRING BACK GODZILLA, I SAY! AND PUMP IT UP WITH BULL$@ SPECS TOO, THEN WE'LL SEE A RACE!!!!! And whats with all this Ford and Holden propaganda. Do we want a nation of ignorant people who honestly think that those freekin taxis with body kits are REAL sports cars (i still wouldn't mind a TBO Barra tho) This is the worst part about it all: "The most annoying thing about it is that people who drive commodores will now believe that their car is "dazhit" and will always be going on about it." "Well our Holden kicked every exotics arse in 2002!" Quote: Lobster and that is so true. can u believe here in adelaide i have seen Stock VS commodores with the number plates "catch me", "bullet" & "sik six" amongst a variety of other commodore dreamers. HAVE THESE GUYS HEARD OF GODZILLA, not a lot have, i have asked some of them, sometimes they respond with "the V8s kicked their arse"....WTF?

i dont really want to arguee here but i think the magna was the car intended to be built in the following years which they intend to race in the V8 supercars by 2004 i think it was, just a comment, good to see they are getting some race experience before they build the final ones!

I noticed none of you guys mentioned the Datsun 1200 that really won! I can understand though as it was to quick for the television cameras and since its only a small old car they can't tell everyone about it cause of the controversy
