Unidentified cable

Hi Guys,
I am new to this forum so apologies if I have posted this under an incorrect category.
I recently bought a datsun 1200 ute and would love to get it restored. I am not a mechanic but would love to learn about cars and hopefully with the help of this forum and google I one day will be able to get my ute ready :).
For a start, will some please be able to identify the attached parts for me? there is a strange cable that is not connected to anything, not sure what that cable is. It is coming from the firewall.
Will really appreciate any suggestion/comments.
Kind regards,
Ron

Hi Ron, welcome to the club.

Unfortunately that is not a stock cable. So we don't know what it is.

It looks to be coming out of the firewall where the clutch cable usually comes out of, but doesn't look like a clutch cable to me.

EDIT: I meant choke cable

Hey Ron,

A and B are part of the Brake Master Cylinder and what you have labeled there are the front and rear fluid reservoirs.

C is your speedo cable

And the mystery cable is coming out of the hole in the firewall for the choke cable. I'm gonna take a guess that the previous owner had that hooked up until he rebuilt the carbie and then didn't bother hooking it back up again.

Welcome!

Correction:

* C is the clutch cable
* Speedo cable is just behind the clutch cable

My 1200 had a wire coming out of that exact same spot

It was for the aftermarket tachometer, wire lead to Coil. But your cable goes somewhere else.

Late utes had an auto choke, so no cable in that hole. It was just a plug. The choke wire came out of the engine harness.

My coupe has a manual choke which comes out of that hole, but I suppose it could have different uses depending on the year/model?

Yes.
* Early 1200s had a manual choke, so cable comes out that hole.
* Late 1200 didn't have a manual choke, so that hole is plugged.

In the photo it appears to be an electrical wire instead of a cable.

It also appears to be a late 1200 judging by the coil on the firewall.
