I guess the question is what are the 'required' gaseous emission standards. I may be reading it the wrong way but it reads to me as only needing to meet the applicable standards based on the age of the vehicle. Maybe its just wishful thinking. I will find out and let you all know as im sure there are plenty of people out there who are thinking blow through on a series for their builds.

LA3 states that you cannot certify a modification under that code if it causes the vehicle not to meet the required gaseous emission standards. It goes on to say "Vehicles manufactured on or after 1 January 1969 and prior to 1 July 1988 need to comply with the Second Edition ADRs..."
So you need to comply with the emissions testing as per much more modern EFI vehicles from the post 1986 change to ULP, which were almost universally EFI to meet the emissions standards of the day. You will need a cat and you will need very good NOx control at idle and absolutely perfect progression tuning. To get it to pass at idle will make it dangerously lean and run like a dog on the primary channel, and probably also the secondaries. It will be all but impossible to do it with a carby.

Ok. Ive been doing A LOT of reading and cant find anything about having to comply with modern emission standards. Only thing i can find about that is for vehicles that fall under the category of icv (individually constructed vehicles). As far as i have read vehicles that fall under LA3 for turbo and superchargers just need to apply to the applicable second edition ADRs relevant to the year of manufacture for the motor if they are pre 1988. Will be trying a few more engineers tomorrow and will keep everyone updated.

Saw that one advertised. Looked like a good buy.
NCOP requires turbo cars to meet modern emissions tests, not just those of the year of manufacture. It will not be all but impossible to meet them with a carby. With my L20 turbo, I refitted the standard carb for engineering. Of course, some people find dodgy engineers...

Yeah shes pretty straight. Tiny bit of rust bubbling up on boot. Otherwise cant find any. Paint has definately had a few touch ups though. Havent been over her with magnet yet. Engine bay and floor pan are clean as a whistle so should be an easy respray down the track. Unfortunately white walls are a grind job so they will be going. Shame too as tread is 90% on all 4.

should be fine to engineer . Will need to have pcv hooked up ,maybe bigger front brakes stanza or 200b and make sure the exhaust is under 98db and if ithas a bov it will have to be a plumb back call auto sport engineering at kirawee and see what they have to say.

So here are some pics. Any opinions or info from what you can see of the engine build are welcome.
Thanks Trav

Thanks again dave. If you ever get to oz let me know and ill shout you a beer or two. I dont think i would be the only one.
I called a couple of engineers today but they were both really vague. All they said was cant really tell you anything without seeing the car. Buggers know how to charge just for consultation too. Oh well guess ill just bite the bullet and get one out to look at it. Just hope its worth it and i only have to have the leaky diff fixed/replaced and motor tuned to pass emissions. Fingers crossed.
Thanks Trav
