1200rc if you could take some pictures of your setup I would be very grateful.

Appears to bolt in front of the radiator using the existing bolt holes.

Datsun 1000 mounted it in front of the radiator. 1200 improved it by mounting to the side with it's own fan. At least that was Datsun's intention. It was up to the installers to put in whatever they wanted.

In 1978 the first factory installation used a 2nd condenser

Has anyone got any pictures of where to mount the condensers?

I have the kit with two of them so not too sure which one goes where? One has a fan attached and the other is just on its own, perhaps one in front of the radiator and the other off to the side?

Also I am trying to figure out all the plumbing, have people made new holes in the firewall in the past or have they managed to use existing ports in the firewall.

You're right 1200rallycar but I'm in a fairly remote area and there is nt anyone that really knows how to do that sort of work around here.

For a bit of a laugh, check out the response from HyChill below!

Quote:
Hey dude, this guy will need adaptors and fittings etc to make this #OOPS# fit and operate, the idea of a quick cheap fix is not a cheap quick fix. It will be painful to find out what suitable fittings are necessary to fit his ancient chariot he probably used at the coliseum.

For the most common cars domestically here, he requires : 1 x tap, 1 x adaptor for can, 1 x hose, 1 x coupling, 1 x adaptor on vehicle. Plus usually a gauge/manifold set to ensure is being done properly, approx. $250 worth assuming he doesn’t have anything. It’s going to be more than $45 to fix his ac issue...most workshops charge around $200 to fill ac system and they have all required items to perform the job.

I am not an a/c expert, I can merely go off what others say and have done previously, I am lazy and would happily just pay someone to do it. I do not know if flushing, shampooing, blow drying etc will be necessary but I think it should be cleaned out. Replacing the receiver drier would be good practice but usually I’ve only heard of them being replaced when not functioning correctly. Ideally he does need proper assistance from a qualified person.

We can provide all parts with no drama but being international I can see this turning badly when items are incorrect and #OOPS# don’t fit.

had the stock system converted to the current standards

cost approx $750 but that included new hoses which was about $250 (you might not need them?)
i didn't shop around, just took it to the local place

works really well

if you want it - pay for it to be done right, otherwise don't bother
chances are the 45 year old seals/valves etc in the system you have are rooted anyway and it will not work properly or leak whatever you put in

Hydrocarbon (hychill) refrigerant that you are talking about is not unsafe (if you consider people drive around with LPG tanks in the boot) and is not more flammable or toxic than the old refrigerants. It actually has an advantage because aromatics are added to it so you can smell if you have a leak. The problem? Very expensive at the moment due to low demand, I have suspected LPG will most likely work as hydrocarbon refrigerants has a composition very similar to LPG.
I have seen quite a few conversions of R22 and R404 to hydrocarbon without any issues, if you're really tight you could get away without replacing the expansion valve.

Okay, will take a look. The R134a sounds like a lot of hassle to convert to, and then you run the risk of ruining the compressor...

Anyone with any experience with the HyChill product? They say it is a replacement for R12. It is also flammable so I might as well try the LPG

There used to be another gas - FR12 from memory - which was like r12 but not ozone depleteing. I heard it was lpg with the propane removed but that could be bullshit.
There is another option, just ask the a/c guys.
