ok fellas just bought some new wheels and they are a tad two wide, so the oldies are staying on for now, but i need to know a cheap but good way to roll the guards out and it has to look good as so no blot ons allowed(i think they are ugly as, but to each his own.) can anyone please help me out here.
also i keep on saying hey fellas at the start of my posts, are there any ladies who need to be included?

You usually just roll the lip on the arches so that the tyres don't scrub but I suppose you could do it a bit further to make them wider, but in the end if you are going to make them wider the paint is going to come off. Plus if you have to do it that much it won't look right and flares would end up looking neater!

with mine the fronts stuck out by 5 or 20 mm, a guy i was showing just grabbed the guard and leant back pulling it out gradually jerking at it around the radius, this slowly pulled the guard out enough that it cleared the tyre, i also have my gaurds lipped though if you havent done this that would help

i already have had the guards lipped by a panelbeater mate of my brothers but that still wont let the 215's that come with the wheels fit under the guards.
the 195's on at the moment only just fit at the pointed end, but the sliding end is fine with 195's but im pretty sure the flareing them is the easiest option.
so how can i do it.

I've had this same prob, and l've only got 195's on 15" (the car is pretty low though). I've got to it with a hammer and blocks but there is only so much it will move..

Best bet is to get an oxy and heat 'n' beat.. l'd just get your panelbeater friend to do it...

A last option which l almost did was buy guards from another type of car at wreckers, cut the flares out and weld them on..it'll leave a smooth finish with bigger flares...

if your woried it wont go past rego cus of it i dont think it should woory you because my dad's land cruser the when he lifted it and stuck bigger wheels and tires on they stuck out about 1/2-1 inche out and they havnt ticked him of yet and its been that way for donkey's ages

I like what andos is saying about cutting and welding on other arches. I nearly done the same with my old 1200 but mine was cause it was too low not the tyres were to wide!
First I lowered it and drove for a few weeks, then I wanted it lower ( I only had 14in 185's) so in with the new springs and out with the air hacksaw and cut the front arches 1/1/2 inches higher. I then went to the wreckers and cut out some arches, Kept them in the garage for ages, then I took the car off the road. I fixed some rust up then I got my 1000 and all of a sudden the 1200 required to much work, so off when the 1200 and into the garage went the 1000. Now nearly 2 yrs later the 1000 is still in there but nearing finish ( yeah right) and has received more work then it would have taken to finish the 1200!
Bloody cars!

1 other thing, 1200ute8u1 my little man I understand what you saying about your pops 4wd but as most of us would have seen, wider tyres on a 1200 or a car for that matter are gonna stand out more than a 4wd, plus on a 4wd it looks good!
But hey I get where you are coming from mate!

im not sure i would do this to my baby but we needed to flare the arches on my girlfriends mk 1 escort so we got a conventional jack and some wood and we placed the jack up under the arch ( we jacked up the car and took off the wheel first) against the outside of the engine bay/ inner guard and then placed the wood wrapped in cloth against the inside of the wheel arch and slowly jacked it out. the only thing you have to be careful of is not to dent the guard with the corners of the wood. and if you do it, do it SLOWLY dont pop the guard off.

Yes, minipearl is my mother. I wouldn't worry too much about trying to include her in your questions though. She only pops in on rare occasions. She might show up more once I get her car going, but I doubt it.

As for welding on "flares" from another car, that is exactly what tensandtwenties and I did with the Chickenhawk. I think there are pictures somewhere of them. I'll ask John (tensandtwenties) where they are hidden.
The particulars are, Dodge Omni front fender bulges make lurvely steel flares for a 1200.
