when you test your battery and the engine is running it should read 14.5 volts or so.

My wife got me as the tool to keep forever. Maybe not by choice

it sounds electrical. Could it be faulty regulator or connection somewhere. Weird it needs 10 mins to cool down til starts.
Get a multimeter and test light. Go from there.

Go buy a multi-metre for $30 instead and then you can diagnose it properly. Plus you need to test your alternator. It could be over charging or undercharging. You don't want to through away a good battery or ruin a brand new one.

Worst case your battery is dead as first thought and you have tool to keep for ever.

Also when you turn ignition when its not working does it 'click' at all? (The starter motor that is?)

Do dashboard lights pop up?

Doubt it would be battery i would be looking at the starter. Wouldnt expect the battery to stop working then randomly work normally and that be from heat... Not that i'm an expert infact probably most uneducated person on here ha

Not that this is heat related (could be) have you tried tapping the starter motor before it 'cools down' for the 10 mins? Get it hot then when it doesnt start give it a tap see if it starts then...could be coincidence that it happens to be when its cooling down... Could be something to do with contact too as in with leads or even inside starter motor/solenoid as obviously the metals expand and retract in differing temps...

Something to think about maybe before you spend that extra $100 you may not need to?

Also take the battery to repco or somewhere like that they can usually tell if its no good.

Check all wire attachments...

Hope it helps!

Could be the starter is worn down and heat soaked. Best way to determine if it's the battery is to swap with a good batter from your parents car. If that works good, buy a new battery for mum & dad. If it doesn't help, keep looking for the cause.
