I think it's the worst looking z I have ever seen. As for the guy who reckons he owns it, well, I don't think I'll comment at this stage!

Tom.

And why on earth would you put an auto in a sports car?
I assume that the sentiment about the auto trans would also apply to such true classics as the AC Shelby Cobra, yet two were built new with such a trans.
One of them is still owned [i believe] by the original owner, a fellow by the name of Carol Shelby. I was also of the belief that the other was built for Bill Cosby & it ran either twin turbo's or a 427 cammer [or both, I forget]
If an auto is good enough for the father of both the Cobra & the Viper, then it's good enough for me.

When adequate power is available, I don't think an auto is any sort of dissadvantage, & while I think this particular Z is a yawn, I think it qualifies under the heading of 'adequate power'

The Z was a mass produced Datsun, yet we have no reservations about performing similar mechanical changes to our own much loved mass produced Datsuns with the fitment of L series, CA, SR, & FJ engines. [and more] If the Z was a hand built, limited production classic, then I might agree, but it isn't, instead, like our own beloved rides, it's just another car. Is it a classic? Not yet, but eventually when it becomes rare enough.

The dumbass probably took out the independant rear suspension and replaced it with a Ford 9 inch!
Once I had a guy waste half an hour telling me about the Z-car he built with a small block Chevy and Ford 9 inch rear end. I just looked at him and said, "Why?"

Best sounding road car: There used to be a yellow 300ZX in town with an ex-race jet sprint small block chev with that wonderful gear drive whine and sharp cammy exhaust note. By god it could move too!
Apparently the guy put the original engine back in because he was sick of welding the body up after cracked!

As for the 240Z, I agree I don't like it, but I do like modified cars and as long as the workmanship is good and the guy has done the work himself who are we to judge.

Reminds me of a saying I heard once, "Any back yard mechanic can restore a car but it takes real skill to cut one up"

Get it?
