At least they are better than GM USA. We keep importing them here. The Monaro as the Pontiac GTO back in 2004-2006 and now the Caprice as the last of the V8 police interceptors. The GTO was liked except that GM blanded down the styling worse than the Monaro. Ford brought over the Capri convertible and that wasn't very successful.

Holden do the same thing, year after year, - just like Ford.
If you ask me, Holden and Ford are poor-quality Aussie garbage. And i'm 100% Australian..
Then you have HSV and FPV, and what do you know, they are exactly the same but they are terribly expensive..

Flatto,
That makes alot sense what you said about concept to production.
For the sake of the forum, assuming you have been tasked with developing a new 1200,Would you mind posting your sketch of a 2016 datsun 1200?

I should make it clear that I'm not one of the guys in the team that normally does the sketching, I'm involved in the team that brings those sketches to life in 3D. If you need parts modelled, animated or rendered, I'd be better off helping in those areas as they're more my forte.

If you're all wondering what a new 1200 would look like, Nissan has already done the work for you, it's the Datsun on-DO...

A new 1200 concept might look like the Juke but with rwd only (drive train out of Rasheen) and other cost-saving changes.

if we dont complain about style we are all just brown noses of the Puke that comes out from wasted $$$$ millions

Nissan Puke is an excellent example of something that will not be timeless or collectible and due to the Prince Dept it goes faster with gtr running gear

Aussie grown Holdens design dept is embarrassing the bigger departments and making the local Ford styling a joke. Look at the latest Commonhoe interior it kills almost anything out there.

Pity Holden is not making a compact frills free rwd 6 speed Ls powered coupe

A limited number of jukes run the r35 gtr drive terrain...and have been upsetting many a cars on the dragstrip.Couple of videos on youtube showing quartermile times of juke r35 gtr running gear vs r35 gtr

Yes, better to celebrate style -- tell us what you like -- than to be a complainer about style.

This argument is futile - no ones right or wrong - it totally subjective!

STYLING = personal TASTE

You cant tell someone that dosen't like the TASTE of tomatoes that they TASTE delicious. End of story

Thats what makes different styling so great - there's a taste for everyone

my 2 cents

In Europe, the Juke is Nissan's second best-selling car.

Nissan didn't even appear in the top 10 automotive manufacturers in Europe last year and the juke sold 97,538 units in 2014, which meant it was 5th in it's segment.

The Juke sold a dismal 38,184 in the US in 2014 which meant it was 20th in it's class. For some more perspective, the number 1 seller in the Subcompact SUV market, the Honda CR-V, sold 335,019 units.

I'm a big Datsun/Nissan fan too, but let's not sell the numbers too much.

Mind explaining this
Please dont take my nonsense seriously ;)

Sure.

To put it simply, sketches like the one you linked are drawn for design direction. You aren't going to get the roof the low, the wheels that big, or the windscreen that sloped.

You might get close to that if you're building a supercar with a bespoke platform and an unlimited budget, but that's not normally the case. If a designer ever sketches something like that and expects it to look the same as their sketch once it hits production they're kidding themselves. Any automotive designer can draw a nice looking image, but the good designers are the ones that produce a good looking design that can also fit on the platform. It's harder to find those designers than you'd think
