Rings are made out of Cast Iron and the oil control rings are steel. They usually don't go on the shelf unless they rust

Does anyone have a good source for piston rings? I see that RockAuto does not carry them and I don't really know where else to look. There is an NOS set on eBay but is it a good idea to use 40 year old replacement rings?

Not mass produced, just one for my engine. It seems pretty important to properly cover the transmission with the clutch, flywheel and throw-out bearing being exposed without the cover.

So you'll be reproducing them? No one has asked about this part in many years, so there appears to be no demand ...

I'm guessing no one makes a reproduction? I guess I wouldn't be that hard to make one.

That's a difficult one. You can find it on a 1971-1973 Datsun 1200

As far as I know only that plus Datsun 1000 (which was never sold in USA) used it

* 30422-18000 COVER-DUST CLUTCH HOUSING B10, B110
* 30422-H5010 COVER-DUST CLUTCH HOUSING B110 0473-

If you are using a newer transmission (1974-up), use the full engine plate instead + the short release bearing sleeve

It depends on the camshaft you have chosen and especially the valve springs -- where does valve float begin?

* The yellow zone should start at 6000 RPM, unless you have fitted a mild cam then it should be 5600 RPM
* The red zone starts at 6400 RPM with stock Datsun valve springs. 6800 with Datsun GX valve springs, or higher with aftermarket valve springs
