Rallytwit,
Ive come to notice that track guys are the ones who tend to realise more about the importance of gear ratios for racing.
I guess for a street car its not necessary..

Dave, while the T50 box is strong the stock ratios still suck. I've been beating up all the options to get a sturdy box with decent ratios that won't cost $2500-$3000........or more.

Rallytwit for your application purposes, not only does the t50 ratios suck, it weighs more than 15kg more than a 56 5 speed close ratio which is a few kilos heavier than a 56 4 speed close ratio.in my opinion i wouldn't add a heavy gearbox without close ratio gearsets for a naturally aspirated a-series motor.Might get away with it for turbo or supercharged applications. For track cars, once you go close ratio gearsets, theres no going back to stock wide ratios.Even better if matched with the right diff ratio and tire sizes.

Heres a link to a 56A 4 speed close ratio gearbox with straight cut gears being sold on ebay but in portugal. His happy to ship worldwide. USD 1500 buy it now not including shipping and other taxes.

quote from the seller, who won the championship in his country
"..more than the power of the motor gearbox turns out to have more importance because it can harness the power of a more linear way keeping the engine always at high revs without losing between gear changes..."

See our article Adapter Plate

But why bother? There's always an A-series 5-speed for sale

The eternal 5 speed gearbox problem raises its ugly head again.
My memory seems to vaguely recall an escort gearbox grafted onto an A series on a 120 y rally car for sale on ebay .
Surely there must be simply way to do this

why is he advertising it as a close ratio?
also these boxes are not tested just word of mouth
could be crunchier than a kit kat.

Be great if someone made a simple 5cm plate to adapt
a world class Stumpy S10 T5 to a A series bell as
1095-1300usd buys any ratios under the sun and these
boxes are light, easy to rebuild and super common
maybe most avail 5 speed of all time and can be
unbolted easily leaving the bell on the engine.

even have more compact jag kits for the rear

Might as well bid on it for a spare at that price

Nissan Competition Part No. 32010-7251P is the "Option 1 W/R" gearbox, same as the GX except that 4th gear is 1.291 instead of the GX's 1.254.

The one that just sold was a wide-ratio box (standard GX ratios), so you didn't miss out ...

If I could find the cluster gears for the close ratio 4 speed II have enough parts to build 2 ultra close and one mid close 56 series box................I'd be set for the next 15 years.
