arent injectors these days located higher up than traditional efi setups
there are plenty of guys even TK using injectors higher up the inlets
and mimicking weber carbs to some cooled charge effect term used I forget

There's a trade off, yes you get better charge cooling having the injectors further out, but, the further the injectors are from the inlet valve the harder it is to tune for transient conditions as the lag time increases and the amount of acceleration compensation because the area of wetted wall/ size of the fuel pool gets bigger.

It all comes down to the fact that petrol/ gasoline is a mix of hydrocarbons and the heavier ones don't actually evaporate unless the manifold is heated (goodbye charge cooling). This doesn't matter for racing but is a pain for cruising around, it's almost impossible to get rid of all the flat spots. It also means you have to run richer mixes all the time to make it driveable. The other issue is it varies more with ambient conditions.

I say this from experience since my current setup has the injectors mounted ~500mm out from the cylinder head. I now appreciate how you end up with a better overall package if it's easier to tune.

The best place for the injector is in the cylinder, then you get the best of both worlds.

time for direct injected A series! like Hyundai and Mazda aim for compression ignition to get rid of the spark plug and replace with injector :) if only it was that easy :)) warning might need pneumatic operated valves and an aftermarket ecu worth a mc claren

In all seriousness would it be worth leaving a little meat for porting out the oval port on the sides to have big round ports?

That looks pretty sweet, and similar to the layout on my quad throttle body manifold. I like the look of your brackets for the fuel rail. Do you think you'll make up any more if other people are interested?

Fantastic work! Welding injector bosses onto a custom manifold is a real pain. This is a great solution and done very neatly.

I've wondered why Ford used such a small plenum while all other OEM intakes have a larger plenum. Anyone know the advantage?

Yes, a smaller plennum reduces peak torque and the rpm where it comes on but the area under the torque curve stays roughly the same so you have a fatter torque band. They may have needed to fatten the torque curve.

What make/model does that manifold come from? It looks like it's a good starting point for the A series.

That manifold is from the Ford Escort 1.9 CVH engine (Canada model 1990-1993)
