Hey there everyone

I'm sitting here and thinking a bit about chassis strength...

Does the chassis of a 1200, or for that matter a B210/120Y need any further support when throwing a bigger motor is installed?

AND where would be the places to strengthen?

Best Regards

Not needed. Though like any thing, may be beneficial. In USA, we commonly fit 2.4 liter Nissan engines without any chassis strengthening -- and without any accidents. In AUS the government says you can't do that, they only allow 2.0 liter engines. Common strengthening points include:
* Strut Tower bar
* Steering Gearbox Brace
* Rollcage
* Seam welding

I built a new engine cross member for my KA motor which was a bit stronger and new tunnel for transmission but other than that no strengthening changes to the chassis.

Thank you guys :)
I think I'll make a Tower bar, Seam weld bit and make a steering box brace. Besides that i think I'll make some support bars here and there, but prop more for the looks ^^

For increased torsional stiffness you can use expanding builders foam to fill the chassis sill panels,Ford in Australia with the EB falcon filled the Sills, A pillars and B pillars with expanding foam after the debacle of the EA models which themselves had a section of 1" square retrofitted between the front rails behind the radiator to fix chassis flex.

This was standard practice when many years ago I was involved in building MK2 Escort BDA rally cars, Even when all Aus spec escorts had what is referred to as the Type 49 heavy duty bodyshell with extra gusset plates and doublers.
