Yes, I find it interesting that while Nissan made over 20,000 Austin B-series engines in the 1950s, but when the time came for a modern engine they used the Austin A-series

The 1275 is the most legendary A-series engine (think Cooper editions), while the first A-series was the 803cc of 1952. Austin (later BMC) used this same design cast iron head 3-main bearing etc until 1980, while Nissan kept improving it with five or so major redesigns during the same period. Nissan added light block casting, then alloy head, then came 5-bearing cranks, then came the 1974 redesign, all the way up to 1488cc. Only the BMC turbo made more HP (94 hp, vs Nissan's 92 hp)
