The H165 can be abused behind 90% of A series out there, sure the H190 is way better, but LSD and disc brake availability is pretty lacking and expensive...not that H165 is much better in those areas, but hey you can get a brand new Cusco H165 diff! If you need/want something bigger than the H165 in a 1200, and want LSD and disc brakes, in the US, I'd look to swap to a Ford 8.8. For the same cost of an H165 or H190 LSD, you'd get a complete bullet proof rearend with LSD, disc brakes, and tons of ratio and other options. I bought my core 8.8 Ford Explorer rearend for $150, had it shortened w/custom axles, rebuilt, and upgraded for $1000; so total cost under $1200 and it will never ever break!

Ford 8.8 defeats the datsun idea of lightweight +46lbs vs H190 The LSD units Ive supplied to many datto diehards last 3 years have had no issues even behind a Les Collins George fury replica with 380hp Z18et and another a daily bluebird with 450hp SR20det Both are put through the paces with plenty of abuse and bluey with the SR gets caned hard everyday, tracked and dragged.
The H190 weighs marginally more than H165 and axles are better. Parts are more common than h165 and saves 2 Oprah winfrey buttcheeks over ford 8.8 not to mention more efficiency per hp.
the cost of the H190 LSD unit I can get is only a couple of hundred more than ae86 lsds yet clutch pack carbon steel plates still avail through Nissan, not viscous or non-rebuild type
Plenty of choices available but since he has a H165 diff he best stick to a h165, just be patient one will surface

Yeah the 8.8 is a lot heavier than the H165, I should've weighed mine before I installed it, but I know it's in the 150 lb range, but that weight makes up for itself in strength and durability and is the price you naturally pay to achieve it. Additionally, here in the US, the H190 is not popular at all and hard to find and get parts and disk brakes for. I can throw a rock and hit an 8.8 rearend here; replacement gears, LSD, axles, everything is super cheap and super easy to find here, whereas the H165 and H190 are almost non-existent. I never ever have to worry about breaking anything back there and if I do, it's a cheap fix. I've broken 2 H145's behind an A12 and A15, then lucked out and had a H150 that lasted forever, then engine swapped to a 285 rwhp SR20 with a tricked out and expensive H165 (Nismo LSD, Pitroad/280ZX disk brakes, etc), which snapped the LSD apart doing road racing. So I have always been worried about breaking Datsun rearends and was always never able to have much fun trying to be gentle, and now I can run slicks, do burnouts, and tow a camper if I want without any worries.
How much is the H190 LSD you speak of? 'If' I can find an H190 for my B310 I might be interested.

H190 lsd ive seen for $1200
H190 rear axle assembly to fit B310 came in the 1982-1983 Datsun 200SX. It has factory disc brakes
In USA its easy to find H190 (they are everywhere), but may be hard to find aftermarket H190 parts

A small datsun towing a camper after doing skidz with slicks is hard to even begin to contemplate :0 The H190 is no where as easy to get as a 8.8 but they are available if you know where to look and the lsd clutch pack unit is proven. You just need to make sure its a later 29 spline unit not roadster low 23 or even lower spline count one which are very rare, worth big bucks to the resto owners her in japan, I saw a unit sell for 2300 usd last year and axles for halve as much which is crazy as I though axles could be remade for that price. The S12 as mentioned is the one to go for and commonly available and suits 310 for size Just got one for a laurel C31 owner in the Netherlands and recently sent one for a 520 truck powered by SD23 turbo in France http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... id=466797#forumpost466797

S12 unit is wider. The 1982-1983 unit bolts into a B310, same width even. Of course two-year only axles are getting hard to find but they're out there
