That is a conventional tacho but with the push of a button it turns into a voltmeter the inside measurement not so uncommon from Japan many 1980's Kawasaki GpZ bikes ran the same setup push a button on the dash to get a voltage reading from the tacho

What a treasure this document is ...

dated May 1973 Nissan Service department from the first inside page
日産自動車株式会社 サービス 部
Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Service Department

Inset on the cover is the same Excellent 1400 Coupe as shown in the color brochure page earlier (from the the Sunny optional parts brochure). It is tricked out with options like the rear window louvers and tape stripe

So now I got all motivated again to translate more of the book, only had time to do half before. Good thing there's not a huge amount of text in it. However, it took me one hour just to translate the Preface page which is only 3 paragraphs! Because I don't read Japanese, I only know the alphabets. And a handful of the 2136 characters that schoolchildren learn. I know 'parts' and 'car' for example, but not the other 2,134

1. Look at the photos, then type the characters out
2. Use google translation to turn into English
3. Ponder/tweak the auto-translation into something that makes sense
4. Write it up with photos in the tech section

IF the photos are clear enough. In this case they are!

IF I can figure out the characters. A few had me stumped as to how to draw them. The order you draw them has to be spot-on or it doesn't work. I should try google 'translate from a photo' again. Last year it didn't work very well

Thankfully, in this technical document the text makes for an almost perfect auto-translation. Unlike the brochures with their flowerful descriptions that only a native speaker would understand
