Question for everyone.

I have 1971 datsun 1200 2dr sedan.
It has very few upgrade I manage to put together.
First my carb broke down so I had to install new Weber carb downdraft.
Second wheels issues so I have installed 14 inch rim and tires for better traction.
Third my mechanical fuel pump failed so I have installed new electric fuel pump.
For the most part I am extremely happy with my datsun.
But, one thing I have issue is how it doesn't seem to have enough power when going uphill. Please understand I am not a car guy so I am learning as I study my datsun. I have been reading everything I can about my car but I have not been able to pinpoint my next direction.
My datsun is original automatic.
It has a12 engine I adore. I do not wish to make it into a sleeper nor I wish to race it so engine swap is not what I would like to do.
I may consider converting into manual transmission because I have drove manual for years before this car.
However I am wondering if there is other option create more torque while being automatic?
Should I just give up on the idea and consider converting to manual.
I know this may be a stupid question but I would like some help.
Thank you in advance.

To create more torque, use stock-diameter tires. Most 14s are much taller, which reduces torque. The 1200 will go faster with shorter tires (on the rear). If you want more traction, fit wider tires like 185/55R14, which are same diameter as original but wider

The other thing you can do is rev the engine up. The redline is 6400 RPM, and peak power is made at 6000 RPM. So when going up hills, pull the shifter down into '2' and then put your foot down. In 2nd you can drive up to 70 MPH per the owner's manual (with stock diameter tires)

Thank you for the reply.
Currently my tires are at 195 60 r14.
So I guess I'm fairly close.
I have downshifting to 2nd gear uphill few times but never too sure if that will be okay.
Like I said this is one question I was pondering for a bit.
I guess now will good time to consider hot spark upgrade.

Hot Spark upgrade does not make any extra HP. But it reduces the tune-up frequency

Those tires are much taller than stock- about 1-1/2" taller
* 60 series is taller than 55 series
* 195 is larger than 185
so you'll have reduced torque. And reduced top speed (A12 needs stiff gearing to reach top speed). But the taller tires will return slightly better fuel economy and slightly less noise

You can downshift to 2nd at any speed below 75 mph -- it's in the 1200 Owner's Manual. Even with taller tires. As long as you don't exceed 6000 rpm, it is safe

A12 is a can-do engine!

Hot spark upgrade is meant for more of reliability issue I have.
I have notice sudden engine stop in heavy rain and sometimes cold weather.
It does seem like it may be cause of old coil so i figure it may help it minor upgrade in that aspect.
I will be happy any input in that regards.

As part as I can tell the thermostat is still in place.
Would that cause sudden stops during driving?

Running without a thermostat causes the engine to run under-cool. Less fuel economy and shorter engine life is the result. Never heard of it causing the engine to stop running even in cold weather

If the thermostat is in place, but stuck/sticky ... it can lead to engine overheating. Unlikely to only happen during cold or rainy weather

Perhaps the most common cause of sudden engine stops during driving is loose wire connections in the distributor. So see if they are tight:
* two inside wires (4 screws)
* outside wire connector

Also check the small wire connections at the coil and at the resistor

Thank you for your help I will check on the distributor for its connection.
I just found it odd it would only happen when it rains and when I have light and wiper on but randomly.
I have been reading around to make my car reliable so I can use it everyday so upgrade suggestion are welcomed.
