Hi!

I need your help!

I make a new engine with a regrind cam, twin carbs, double springs, an A14 cylinder head on A12 eNGINE and it works well in a couple of minutes, after that it looses power, and the valves gains clearnces, after a while i had adjust them and new clearance, in a couple of minute a total clearance 0.70mm.

I dismantle the engine and i found the original rocker arms valve opener has wear, loose material, the regrind cam its ok, but im afraid it gains wear.

Please let me know install normal a14 Valve Springs? Buy a reforced rocker arms ?

Many thanks

Luis

Which A12 do you have? Front or rear distributor? If it's the older front distributor did you make sure to modify the oil passage for the newer head?

On the older A12s the oil travels from the block deck into the head, whereas in the newer motor the oil travels to the head via the head bolt (the special narrowed one).

Did you also make sure that the smaller diameter bolt (for oil passage) is in the proper position.

This sounds like the top end is starving for oil, take the rockers off the shaft and see if they are galled.

Hi!

I have an early engine, front distribuitor, i order to machinist to make the change on A14 cylinder head, the T Bolt is on correct position, i have oil on cylinder head i used an early engine gasket, Can i use double springs with the standard rocker arms? They have more pessure.

What do you think the strongest pressure of springs is not the problem?

I will remove the cylinder head to saw the oil passage is in alignement with block

What do you mean with mean galled.

Im so mad

Thanks

Luis

The cylinder heas has the oil passenger

Yes, you can use double valve springs with standard rockers & pushrods

Most likely the oil is not getting to the end of the valve stems. It goes up through the head, into the rocker shaft and out each rocker arm

Galling is a type of wear where metal cold welds between the rubbing surfaces. It then either keeps them welded together or tears off one of the surfaces. It won't happen if there's an oil film in between, galling requires similar or the same material and enough contact pressure to push contaminants out the way and get virgin materials in molecular contact.

316 stainless galls quite easily when self mated. Sorry if it's a bit hard to understand.

Thanks to your help, today i dismantle the rocker arm and see it has some oil to lubrificate. The shaft has a slight round mark.....
Before i took the engine of I measure the compression engine and i have: first and second cylinder has 11 kilograms third and four has 12kgs. the standard measures i think are 9kgs....
I dont know if this compression with the double springs causes wearing on rocker arms? Its too hard to move the engine with the rocker arm install, without them its to easy The rocker arms that i took picture is the 1 st of 1st cylinder who have more wear

I can move easily any arm with no prision, perhaps rocker arms needs more lubrification? I dont remoe the cylinder head yet, problably the synthetic oil cylinder hole dont match with block oil hole? Or the quality of oil? I put galp 10 40

Normal compression makes the engine difficult to turn over

To determine if it's the rockers or the compression, keep the valves adjusted but remove the spark plugs. If you are able to easily turn the engine, then it's not the rockers

Hi!

I had made what you said, i removed the spark plugs and install rocker arms adjust valves, and turn the engine.

Conclusion
Without rocker arms, and without plugs its easy turn the engine
with rockers arms, without spark plugs its necessary more strenght.
Rocker arms have no prision have soft movement, i think its the the double springs causes hardness....on turning engine and causes wearing on rocker arms or mine rocker arms are made made with soft material???? So many people uses double springs and have no problems with standard rocker arms, pushrods?

Thanks

Luis

hI!

You told me that the cylinder has not the sufficient lubrification and i agree, because the rocker has no indication of oil.. neither the interior of rocker shaft, the oil comes into cylinder head through the pushrods.....
I will dismantle the cylinder, and i will see ths oil hole block not match with the cylinder head.
The machinist makes a mess

Thanks

Luis
