Hi Guys,

I picked up a r31 diff recently, however not sure the type of it.

Can someone please help me identify it?

It has a 9-bolt rear cover and 6-bolt tailshaft flange

Thanks in advance :)

Kind regards
Ron

9-bolt cover is fairly unique - it is a Borg Warner 78. If it really came from an AUS-built R31, it could have either the 25 spline (R31 Pintara) or 28 spline (R31 Skyline) axles

You can confirm if the 3.89 ratio is still in there by examining the numbers stamped on the crown wheel (ring gear). Divide the two numbers

The 28-spline unit is rated for 320 ft. lb. torque, about what a 5.0 V8 puts out

Thanks dd,

Is there a way to tell if it is a 28 spline or 25 spline??

Kind regards,
Ron

3.89 is the Skyline ratio... so should be 28
