Hi Guys,

I recently bought a r31 diff however not sure if it is a m78.

I have counted the spine and it is 28.

It has got a tag plate which says:
P/N 43005-J7103

Any help/advice is very much appreciated :)

Kind regards,
Ron

Anyone who calls an R31 diff an M78 is wrong
They are actually an M75
Remove the cover... get the number off the crownwheel.. it will start 0575-
If it does its an M75 so could be Nissan/Commodore/Early Falcon
If its 0578 its Ford

Pics of brakes will help determine its past life also

Is our tech article wrong? it says
Quote:
Australian-built R31 Skyline/Pintara came with a Borg Warner 78 rear axle assembly, although fitted with M75 diff (7.5"/190 mm crown wheel/ring gear)

It says 0578. Does that mean that it is a m78?

M75 = 7.5" crownwheel
M78 = 7.8" crownwheel
The gearsets do not interchange... without machining the housing
But the centres do interchange.
