Has anyone used the ball/cup T/C kit from thezstore.com (motorsports auto) in their 1200's?
The sales people will not confirm if their kit (#23-4190) will work with the 1200 as they specifically list only the Z-cars. I don't have the FSM for any Z-car to compare bushing and rod size with the 1200 setup. The Z-cars have the tension rod mounted behind the LCA while the 1200 has the tension rod mounted in front of the LCA. I would assume that the T/C ball/cup would replace the front rubber rubber and that the other rubber bushing (nearest to the LCA) would remain.
Any comments from 1200 owners who have adapted this kit to their cars would be appreciated.

Because it's been literally 26 years since I converted my car over to the ubiquitous 280ZX front suspension I can't remember if the 1200 radius rods bushings have a different inside diameter. I can tell you the 280zx bushings outside diameter is such that the fit in the 1200 chassis.

Thanks for the information. That's one part of the puzzle solved.
On the 1200 the rod diameter is close to 0.5 inch and the collar OD is about 5/8".
So, if the bushing OD is similar between the 1200 and the 280ZX, then I would presume that the ball/cut kit probably would work in the 1200.

That's great to hear.
So, for the B110 tension rod setup that is mounted ahead of the LCA and towards the front of the car, the kit ball/cup assembly would replace the front rubber bushing that is closest to the threaded nut near the end of the rod. Is that correct?

Yes, same as Z car, it replaces the flex point -- which is the end of the rod away from the A arm

notice the list of cars. Basically everything except B110

Here is what Datsun racing dept. recommended for the Datsun 1200. Not a product kit (a la Nissan Competition) but instead an effective stiffer bushings: Tension Rod and Bushing Modification

So, it's confirmed then that the kit shown on www.thezstore.com will indeed work on the 1200.
I'll place the order and get my old hard rubber bushings replaced as they're all starting to split.
For the rear rubber bushing, will it be better to go with the stock rubber bushing or a harder rubber bushing that was listed in the old Datsun 1200 suspension modification book?

I don't know if it will work on the 1200. The kit instructions list a lot of Datsuns but not the 1200

I guess there's only one way to find out and that is to order the kit and see if it will work. There can't be that much difference between the B110/1200 and the B210 setup. If it fits, it might be a good source for other 1200 owners to upgrade. If not, I can always sell to other Datsun owners in my area. I'll keep you posted.
