Hey guys & girls
I have an issue with my 81 Datsun b310 not starting

Car history: it used to be auto and a12 engine
Car now: has been converted to Manual, a15 with weber 32/36

I've always had an issue with the car being hard to start as it
Don't get driven a hole lot
2 weeks back while sitting idle in the drive way it just stopped and would
not start by key, everything was working but nothing from the starter motor?
Swapped out starter and relay and still nothing, then a black wire running to
The starter relay cooked its self

I can start the car if I put the dash reds on and jump the starter motor
With a screwdriver

I have checked
Key Ignition switch
Battery
Swapped out starter motor
Fuses
Auto park switch
Earths
Coil
Fuel
Swapped out starter motor relay
Swapped out alternator reg
Fixed the melted wire

And the car is still not starting, everything is working but starter motor
Is just not turning over
Could the car being hard to start have burnt something out?

Anyone had something similar happen and how did you fix it?
need help with this its doing my head in
I have no way of taking the car to the mechanic

Cheers guys

Yes, the small wire that goes to the starting motor is the wire that starts the car. If it's cooked (burnt out) then it will no longer start the car

Agreed on the grounds. On A-series engines, the starter is bolted to the transmission, which is bolted to the engine. The BAT thick ground cable should be bolted to the engine (on a non-painted spot -- usually the timing cover). That's the ground system

On a B310 the S wire (Starter wire circuit) goes from the Ignition Switch 'S' terminal through the dash harness, which connects to the Engine Room harness. There the wire goes to the starter. It also branches off in the harness and goes to the coil side of the Ballast Resistor

Is there any possibility of fitting another engine loom, preferably from a manual car, which would remove the jumper wires you should have on the safety starter switch. When I fitted a manual to an auto Sunny there I modified the wires going to the neutral switch by putting jumper wires on a matching plug, or else the car wouldn't have started. Maybe the motor was earthing through the solenoid wire, which is what appears to have burnt out. Maybe Dapto wreckers has something, or any of the other wreckers near you. I don't know of any Sunny's here in Sydney, but maybe the wreckers at Cooma has something. I once had a 1200 loom burn out due to the cigarette lighter wire shorting out. I had to through the complete loom away due to the damage it did.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.
