Hi All,
While trying to fix ignition timing, I accidentally dropped bolt down the distributor hole. Tried draining engine oil but it didn't come out.
What can be done now?

Thanks

You need a magnetic pickup tool or retractable claw pickup tool and a torch. Shine the torch down the dizzy hole and you'll probably see the bolt you dropped sitting between the block and the cam. Then use your 'skill tester' skills with the pickup tool to retrieve the bolt.

probably safe

* The oil pickup tube has a strainer, so the bolt won't be sucked up
* The sump is deep, so the rotating parts won't reach the bolt

BUT if the bolt is lodged on the oil pump gearshaft, it could be a problem

If it is a newer A12 (mid-block distributor location: away from the oil pump) I'd just leave the bolt in there

Also could be a problem if the bolt landed on the camshaft and wedges on a cam lobe. Try turning the engine by hand two full turns to see if it is free

@ddgonzal Thanks for your tips, it's mid-block distributor A12.
So I tried everything to fish out bolt with magnet or endoscopic camera but could not locate it, gave up.

Poured new engine oil and turned engine with hand for couple of turns, it was free. Started and drove for 10 kms. working fine so far.

Thanks
