To the community, a plea.
I have imported 2 1200 coupes into UK from the fair country of Australia (cheers chaps). I did actually live there , It’s a long story but in order to register them I need to prove their date of first registration or manufacture. I have no pre import registration documents from the mother country (Australia) and I have sought info from Nissan Uk, Nissan Japan and Nissan Aus. All have been no help. Both cars have original Vin plates and matching numbers. The DVLA will only accept OEM info or from a recognised source, any ideas?

The date of manufacture should be on the compliance plate under the bonnet on the passenger side.

neither car has a compliance plate, were these actually made/assembled in Australia ?

Irrelevant to the question of compliance plate. Even foreign-manufactured vehicles were given compliance plates

Yes compliance plates started in 1969 ... but i think someone said 1200s didn't get them until 1972? They are safety-related plates, not build date/manufacturers plates. See AUS Compliance Plate

If your B110 was Australian-assembled it would have had this manufacturer's plate:

Japan-built 1200s got a manufacturer's plate but it doesn't have a dates. 1200s sold in USA got yet another plate (with actual build month) riveted to the driver's door jamb

Nissan Japan has build-date records of the car number. Given the Car Number, they theoretically could tell you the approximate build date. However they may not offer this as a service (maybe they won't do it) or maybe you communicated with the wrong department. Their historical records/literature department may be more helpful. See Serial Numbers

I think compliance plates were introduced in 1970 or 1971. So probable your cars were built before then. Are there two vacant holes about 100mm apart on the bulkhead or inner guards for 3mm rivets? That could be a clue as to whether or not there were compliance plates.

That photo is not of the aussie compliance plate but the manufacturer plate. This is what our plates are like https://www.privatefleet.com.au/glossa ... at-is-a-compliance-plate/

The problem is that a compliance plate doesn't show the build date (only the compliance date, which is usually a different month with imports)

Neither the Nissan Japan nor the Nissan Australia ID plate show the build date

It seems like Nissan could at least give a statement that every B110 manufactured in Yokohama was prior to July 1973 ... The last build month was June 1972 as I understand it (first build month was January 1970). Would the government accept that? Or do they need it narrowed down to a specific month?

The 1200 Pickup parts catalog (an offical Nissan document) breaks down monthly build by serial number -- but only for the Japan market sales

Why not try for first registration? There are only so many Australia states. Start with New South Wales i.e. http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au
