Anyone come across a strut insert not sliding into the strut tube?
One is no problems but the other wont slide in.
Both inserts won't slide into the one particular strut.
They are 120y struts .

I'd be checking whether that strut is damaged/ dented/ defective in some way. Might have a bend in it if it's had a real hard knock.

This may be different from your situation but when I put inserts into my cut down 280zx struts, I had to file the weld inside the tube as well sand the paint off part of the insert.

Don't think the strut has been hit , won't even go past the lip in the tube . Were a pair of struts off the same car . Might give sanding the paint of the insert and honing the tube, see if that works.
Thanks for the ideas !

Could be tolerance stack up I guess if they're mint, standard struts (tube ID on the minimum diameter and the insert OD on the maximum diameter). One more thought, is the tight strut a bit out of round?

Think I found whats wrong, sanded the paint off both inserts. Now the one that was ok slips in by itself and the other goes in about 200 mm. Had a look down the tube and it seems to be bulged where the spring seat is welded on. Looks like it was too hot when it was welded on . Probably ok with standard with no inserts but not so good with inserts. Try and clean it up a bit more tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for all the help and tips , I'll hopefully get it sorted tomorrow.

Had exactly the same problem with my new Koni inserts and followed the same remedy as described.

I had that problem with standard Monroe inserts -- paint had to be sanded a little on one of them

If your inserts are shorter than stock inserts (factory Datsun 1200 inserts), how much oil will you need to put into the strut tube? The instructions said 200cc if i recall correctly, but shorter inserts would need more

if I recall correctly 120 strut cartridges are longer than 110 struts. Are they going into stock 110 assemblies?

that doesn't have anything to do with too much paint and not slipping in the tube obviously...

If by "120" you mean B210, yes the North America B210 uses larger diameter 2" struts. B110 uses the smaller 45mm struts (as does all 120Y B210). 120Y = 12" wheeled B210
